OMG, Jake, I'm soaked in my own damn sweat here! Welcome to August!

Yeah, at least I have AC at work.

Studio C has peculiar ventilation issues; sometimes it is too warm, and rarely ever too cold.
  12:45pm

Good morning! AC has been running here since 8am.

Good morning, rw! Is it super-humid out there, too?

Not too humid. I'm sure it's worse where you are!

Got the 100% Whatever premium the other day! For some reason I kept laughing as I was listening. Maybe it's just me but there seems to be a subtle undercurrent of humor.

Ooh, awesome! I suppose you could see humor in people spelling out words...

Hello coelacanth! Welcome to Wednesday whatever!
  12:59pm
rw:

I think the humor for me is just in the idea of collecting songs like that and in the surprise of hearing which songs come up. Plus the wide stylistic variation. My son asked, "Is this WFMU? Sometimes it's hard to tell" You know, Gwen Stefani and Peter Blegvad on the same mix tape.

Nice and perfect here indoors. Although I need a new compressor for my car's A/C, and that's going cost an arm and two legs....

oh, and hello fellow Wingers, (not Kip Winger, unless he's here too).

Hiya NGH! ACs are worth every penny, in my opinion.
  1:26pm

ngh it's tough to drive without legs. You'll have to sell that other arm to modify the car.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm
Ike:

Hopefully NGH can just sell somebody else's legs. Or *something* else's legs. He's in Florida. Are alligator legs worth much?
Avatar 1:29pm
Mary Wing:

Hi there, Ike! Stay inside, definitely!

Good idea Ike! I was picturing an armless, legless ngh driving an air conditioned car around Florida with his teeth.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18pm
coelacanth∅:

well...taking a short break from working already, and just in time! though i generally can't stand rundgren, i love the something/anything album, and very much this song. Terry Hall's voice is bland, but yet that's a pretty good version, in my opinion. bland is better than annoying .

(see? i brought some sunshine with me!)

Nice versions, cool!

Nostalgia could be playing a part but so far I like the original best by a long shot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm
Webhamster Henry:

A real minimal jazz combo version might be good. Like this, but without the string section!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm
coelacanth∅:

i've never heard rundgren's reworking of it but i'd bet that it could stain the memory of the original.

Listening at low volume, I was guessing this was Daryl Hall, which would make sens.

Such an inescapably 70s composition. Early 70s pop has this weird melancholy nostalgia in it and I can't pin down what for. Reluctance to grow up? Desire to retreat from shocks of 60s? Don't know.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38pm
Webhamster Henry:

Too bad there aren't a lot of covers of Dean Friedman's "Ariel".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:40pm

The basic song is fine pop, but Todd's bassline and production make the original fly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41pm
Sem:

Hmm, Scottish soul music to complement Scottish Average White Band disco. Curious, and fun.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42pm
