The really amazing Tibetan stuff I have is all VCDs and I need to find a program to rip them!
Avatar 7:54pm
tim abdellah:

It's been a while since I used a VCD. Don't they work like CD-ROMs - I think if you put them in a computer, you'll see a folder containing a video file or files. You can just pull the file onto your desktop. Then use some video/audio program to extract the audio from the file. I think free programs like FLV Crunch can do stuff like that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55pm
Gary:

FLV Crunch -- I'll track it down. Thanks, Tim!
Avatar 8:03pm
hyde:

VLC player used to open VCD's. not sure if it still does
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:04pm

Ah, thank you, Hyde! I'll look into that one, too

back home. garden looks good, might purchase some ladybugs.

(Got my Radio Blau swag from David before my wfmu swag! email him, it's good stuff, all it takes is emailing him).
Avatar 8:07pm
tim abdellah:

@hyde - VLC probably does. But I think Gary wants to convert the video files to audio files. Don't know if it has that functionality.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:08pm
Gary:

Although, if I could at least open them, then I could play them on this computer and record them with Audacity in my other computer (as I'm doing with this show right now) ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:08pm
Gary:

Radio Blau swag!
Avatar 8:10pm
hyde:

@tim you're probably right. i tend to expect VLC to do everything, heh
Avatar 8:13pm
tim abdellah:

@Gary - Ah you could record into Audacity, but then you'd be re-digitizing the audio, so you'd lose audio quality. It would be better if you can directly extract the existing digital audio from the video file without re-recording.

@Hyde - I know! VLC is great!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:26pm
Gary:

Gosh ... speaking of losing memory ... well, think it was a pretty big / diverse band, including western and Indian instruments, but honestly I don't remember actually seeing the band at all, just Asha. And being amazed because she was, I dunno, 70-something? And belting out Dum Maro Dum (up next, btw)
