America two dollars and twenty-seven cents January 17, 1956.
I can't stand my own mind.
America when will we end the human war?
Go fuck yourself with your atom bomb
I don't feel good don't bother me.
I won't write my poem till I'm in my right mind.
America when will you be angelic?
When will you take off your clothes?
When will you look at yourself through the grave?
When will you be worthy of your million Trotskyites?
America why are your libraries full of tears?
America when will you send your eggs to India?
I'm sick of your insane demands.
When can I go into the supermarket and buy what I need with my good looks?
America after all it is you and I who are perfect not the next world.
Your machinery is too much for me.
You made me want to be a saint.
There must be some other way to settle this argument.

Cadillacs zoom in America
Industry boom in America
Twelve in a room in America
Lots of new housing with more space
Lots of doors slamming in our face
I'll get a terrace apartment
Better get rid of your accent
Life can be bright in America
If you can fight in America
Life is all right in America
If you're a white in America
Here you are free and you have pride
Long as you stay on your own side
Free to be anything you choose
Free to wait tables and shine shoes
Everywhere grime in America
Organized crime in America
Terrible time in America
You forget I'm in America
I think I'll go back to San Juan
I know a boat you can get on
(Bye Bye)
Everyone there will give big cheer!
Everyone there will have moved here

From our home across the sea to see America
And the people opened up their arms
To welcome us... to America
We came like children
From a far and distant land to see America
And the golden sun of freedom
Filtered down to us, in America
And the people stood and stared
Loved us more than we had dared to, in America
Super highways here and there
Pretty womens everywhere
Brady Bunch and Smokey Bear
Buildings reaching to the sky
Afro-sheen and apple pie
PTA and FBI
Jumbo jet begins to rise
A joyful nation waves its bye-byes
Each religion, race, and creed
Gets exactly what they need
God bless Johnny Appleseed"

LET'S READ THE CONSTITUTION JULY 4 WITH
ELEANOR ROOSEVELT
Once again, we will gather for the annual Norman Siegel reading from the Constitution, the Bill of Rights and Declaration of Independence. This year, we will meet again in a setting easy to get to and accessible to transportation -- the beautiful ELEANOR ROOSEVELT MONUMENT on the corner of West 72nd Street and Riverside Drive. There are plenty of benches at the site for those who need to sit down.
The M5 bus goes right there. The M72 and M57 buses stop a block away at 72nd St. and West End Ave, and the IRT subway is two blocks away at 72nd and Broadway.
We will meet at noon, and our beloved Norman, as usual, will make pithy comments throughout the reading exposing our current government's destruction of some of the Constitution's principles. There will be guests who will also nail some of the transgressions being perpetrated on us these uneasy days This is a terrific civic education not to be missed!
Please tell your friends.
DATE: Tuesday, July 4, 2018
TIME: Noon-1:30 p.m.
