Hey all, going to try to beat the 90 degree weather and bike now, Destination Watchung Reservation. Catch you later or in the archives.

Heya, @doctorjazz. Take care, and take water!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:01am

Good morning Jeff and listeners. I'm definitely not headed out today, way too hot

June was a fucked-up year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:06am
fred:

Isn't odd and unusual kind of the plan?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09am
Jeff Golick:

Thanks, @listener james, and yes, June was! Ha.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09am
Jeff Golick:

I suppose it is, @fred, but it comes in several varieties. The most recent version was not so delightful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:15am
fred:

So the purge is over? Did you shed as little as my middle-aged attempts at losing weight usually yield?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17am
Jeff Golick:

Ha. The purge is ongoing. There are several hundred books in front of our old apt bldg now. If anyone is near Park Slope today, take a stroll down President St and grab a handful of tomes.

Local public library Friends might appreciate the books. PLs thrive on book sale revenue.
Avatar 9:24am
tw2sheds:

Is it true there is a movement for President Street to change its name?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26am
Jeff Golick:

Good (early!) morning, @Dean. A good suggestion, thanks. We're a bit too disorganized and harried (and hot) to find good homes for a lot of our stuff, though the nearby Housing Works will get a lot (www.housingworks.org)
  9:27am
Dean:

I can't buy books, for the same reason you have to unload them: no room. But when a classmate of mine, whose dad happens to be one of my favorite literary theorists since, oh, '79 or so, recently offered her father's post-retirement volumes to me, I had to jump on the chance. Took just a box or two, but am so pleased to have some of this stuff.
  9:27am
rw:

Good morning!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27am
Jeff Golick:

@tw2sheds! Hello! I'm not aware of that movement...seems...far-fetched? The corner of President and Clinton Sts is not a happy place, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28am
Jeff Golick:

Hi hi hi, @rw!
  9:28am
Dean:

That Housing Works looks terrific.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36am
Jeff Golick:

Yes, a great org, @Dean. They have stores here and there, including a great bookstore in Soho that has wonderful events.
  9:39am
rw:

JG, glad you made it into the new apartment and still had the time and energy to put together a radio show this morning. It's making for a nice start to a Sunday here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40am
Jeff Golick:

Thanks, @rw! Wonderful to hear. Getting this together was a priority, if only to have something familiar to cling to.
  9:41am
rw:

Is the year on that Hassell record correct? I thought it was much more recent. Maybe it was reissued?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42am
Jeff Golick:

You know, I though it was new this year, @rw, but on closer inspection, appears to have been originally released in 09. It's new to me, at any rate.
  9:43am
Dean:

Hassell year is correct. That's when I found it.
  9:44am
rw:

Looked it up. You and Dean, as usual, are right. Must have been reissued recently. It's a good one!
  9:45am
Dean:

But it looks like it was his last album until this year's Listening to Pictures (Pentimento Volume One). I'm surprised to learn that he hasn't put out a record in nine years.

Thanks, rw. Taking it easy today, nothing planned. Gotta stay home from work tomorrow to watch the 7YO. That's about it.

Is there a not-good Dust-to-Digital box, @fred? Thanks for the tip.

Not related to anything, but I spent most of Friday at the Paris art school, and their newish dance department is getting really good, and it's only in its second year. And they had live bands back, though I missed most of that because of the dance performances. These open-doors days are a much needed brain cleansing for me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40am

Reminds me that I learned yesterday of a forthcoming release on Naxos of choral folk music, including a rendition of a Gordon Lightfoot tune. Really sweet record: https://naxosdirect.com/items/and-so-it-goes-songs-of-folk-and-lore-455485
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50am

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50am

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51am

watchung reservation is beautiful, though it's long and narrow, so one's never far from traffic -and you can hear it. (maybe not everywhere)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56am
fred:

Constellation runs ads in n+1, and for once I don't mind seeing an ad
  10:56am

You know, in three days it'll be USA's version of Canada Day. An all-Sousa show, perhaps?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57am
coelacanth∅:

when i lived in n plainfield (20 years ago) and worked in summit my commute was through the reservation on a mountain bike, through the woods. it's excellent biking - widely varied terrain. ups downs very fun. it was illegal but i was told that was just the lobbying work of the horse stables nearby, who it wasn't illegal for, so i ignored that.
then i learned about the thin topsoil and serious erosion problem and i decided to stop.

Dean:

Ain't it Staton?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27am
fred:

@Hams: Don't worry, if anything outing yourself as a station listener probably puts you into a "don't waste your time calling" industry list. You're more likely to use that call in a project of yours than buy something from them
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am
Jeff Golick:

I'll redact it, @Hams.

That Porter article is fascinating. I'd really love to know who else was in the studio.
  11:34am
rw:

Whew. Got a good chunk of computer work done this morning. I don't know what I'd do without this radio station. It's really tough for me to sit at a desk without it.

Early '60s Coltrane is better than anything.
  11:37am
Dean:

Can't see the comments to the Porter piece, but yesterday somebody speculated it could have been Cal Massey.

it's an old run-down house but the room doesn't suffer for it. (my room sometimes does) there's a local bus stop 3 minute walk from here that goes to the trailways bus station in new palts, which goes to the city.
