Martha's show came on exactly as i started a 1.5 hr drive today. after the first 10 minutes the reception falters and then for the majority of the drive it swells and retreats, competing with 2 other stations that swell & retreat. it sounded fucking awesome but i don't know what was purely what Martha was playing and what was the product of serendipity!

@coel: as a college kid, I did the same w/ a noise late night show leaving Atlanta. As I I approached a hill, I would get the signal, as i went down signals fought each other, It was appropriate (especially for '99).

I was just texting my wife how loud the crickets, cicadas, and other bugs are here during the summer (my first here in FL). My friend made a field recording on magnetic 1/4" tape of scores of june bugs hitting a screen door over and over. We slowed it down and added reverb (etc) and whatever the hell I did to our show last night.

on wednesday (i think) one of those other stations airs somewhat controversial political commentary and i've recorded a few times when that was competing with wfmu and something else that's usually fluffy piano music or intense classical music. (i have identified the former, but will never intentionally do or say anything that may result in that station getting any financial support - they being guilty of selfish anti-wfmu shenanigans a few years back.
