...buggy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:03pm
chresti:

Coel, I saw lizards catching bugs recently and I thought of bugs keeping you awake
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07pm
coelacanth∅:

chresti i now kill spiders in my living space, except the leggy, flimsy ones that i'm sure don't bite me. i'm not happy to be killing so much. i put tea tree oil at the foot end and lavender oil around the head end of the bed. i didn't get bit, but that's just one night. Thanks for asking.
...and yes maybe a lizard.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11pm
chresti:

we have many varieties of flying biting bugs-I use a diffuser with lemongrass sometimes
Avatar 9:14pm
BronwynB:

flying biting bugs!!! where do you people live?? not nyc i hope
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:15pm
chresti:

I leave spiders alone in general, as long as they promise to get those bugs
I'm in san gabriel, ca
Avatar 9:19pm
glenn:

please. you haven't suffered until you've endured black fly season.
  9:26pm
still b/p:

Sometimes on a canoe trip you can be swarmed by black flies, skeeters AND no-see-ums with little mercy shown and many marks left.
Avatar 9:26pm
BronwynB:

black fly season??? *hides under soundboard*
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27pm
coelacanth∅:

i have been followed, harassed & repeatedly bitten by black flies a few times to the point where we had to abandon our day hike barely into it. horse flies are twice as brutal though. that's in nj, not far from the station, in morris county.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29pm
coelacanth∅:

where i live now, about 90 mi north of the station, it's not worse than most places; just this apartment has a problem. this never happened in my last place.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30pm
chresti:

I don't know, having tiny invisible alien mosquitoes that fly around day and night is sufferating enough-I haven't experienced black flies, luckily. They seem bad. I think they're in the central valley@glenn
  9:31pm
Funky16corners:

Hi Bronwyn!
Avatar 9:31pm
glenn:

hmmmm. i'm trying to choose between horse flies and deer flies, those little turds of misery.
  9:32pm
still b/p:

Made the acquaintance recently of a guy who was in Up With People a few years ago. He showed me their...directed?enforced?...big-clapping style.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33pm
coelacanth∅:

chresti - black flies feel like someone taking a sharp tweezer and poking you, removing a tiny chunk of flesh as they pull away. horse flies are worse.
  9:34pm
Funky16corners:

Epic Jerry Ragovoy tune/production. The Terry Reid version is amazing, too.
Avatar 9:34pm
glenn:

except for every horse fly there's about 50 000 black flies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34pm
coelacanth∅:

i'll have the Terry please!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36pm
coelacanth∅:

glenn, true.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37pm
coelacanth∅:

(well, not where i was. but several times more for sure)
Avatar 9:37pm
glenn:

speaking of deer flies, sarah huckabee sanders is resigning.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37pm
coelacanth∅:

haha
  9:38pm
still b/p:

Black fly bites at neck level or above leave a helluva knot on me. On arms and legs the bites are maximum ugly a few days after the fact; purple blotches looking like a frightful condition when there are lots of them. When the bites have been many in a day, I swear I can feel the accumulation of some kinda something the little bastids have put into my system.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40pm
Franco Twinkie:

Coel. I was outside until the 'sceeters decided my arm was the most interesting thing on the front porch. When I came in the house, in was in the middle of The Gingham Check Jamboree. Colorado has giant black ants, but it also has glaciers...at least the last time I looked. There's bugs in the south pole, right?
  9:41pm
Funky16corners:

We live by the water and are besieged by mosquitos. They usually ignore me but eat my wife and youngest son alive.
  9:41pm
chresti:

in Griffith Park, right now, lizards are out catching bugs which is a wonderful sight to see! The lizards, I looked up, are good for control of ticks and Lyme disease
  9:42pm
chresti:

B/p THAT would be a sight to see!
Avatar 9:42pm
BronwynB:

@funky: epic is the perfect word!! i'll have to check out the terry version, thanks!!
Avatar 9:42pm
glenn:

apparently possums eat many ticks.
  9:44pm
Funky16corners:

Here in NJ I’ve seen folks use Guinea hens for tick control
Avatar 9:45pm
BronwynB:

the only thing i can contribute to the bug discussion is that i live in harlem and sometimes there are roaches, but not as many as when i lived in crown heights
  9:45pm
Funky16corners:

When Bronwyn’s done I’ll be on with Testify! wfmu.org/playlists/shows/79653 for playlist etc
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46pm
Franco Twinkie:

Right now, there are more lizards in southern California than mosquitos. Up in the foothills, where my sister lives, they gather on the widow screens like house flies.
  9:46pm
chresti:

Franco, if not, there will be soon, as soon as everything thaws
  9:47pm
chresti:

We do have our resident possums but they’re getting fat on Nellies food
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48pm
coelacanth∅:

i've lived with roaches and got them well under control using tilex cleaner. i'd welcome that situation in return for no human-biting arachnids.
  9:48pm
chresti:

I like to pretend that they’re eating the swarm of ants
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50pm
coelacanth∅:

(to be clear, i didn't use the tilex to clean with! - at least not often)
  9:57pm
chresti:

Funky- I’ve read that skeeters aim for bright and dark colors ; perspiration, strong and sweet smells...

They are less inclined to attack if you have vitamin B1 and the Bs in your system
  9:58pm
chresti:

And smoke tobacco
  9:58pm
chresti:

So tell them to lay off the parfum
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59pm

i've read that about b-1, but heard they're attracted to light blue because it represents water.
garlic i've proven to not work...at least not by eating it.

the album (light of love) version doesn't have that extended ending. it would've all fit!
