Once some doofus said to me;"Arn't the Cowsills kinda like The Osmonds?" I guess he thought all family bands were extruded from the same hose (think of The King Family) I love these guys! And girl(s)

those 1st two garage records were FANTASTIC
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15pm
Franco Twinkie:

i know Susan is still out there - she just did a Buffalo Springfield tribute thingy here a couple months ago, but what about the others?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15pm
coelacanth∅:

i liked the rain the park and other things ("flowers in her hair" as i knew it) as a child then made fun of it as a punkrocker with a deranged version in a sound collage...now i like it again
chresti you know this song.

The Cowsills, with Susan and two of the brothers are out on tour this summer with the Happy Together tour

Franco last i knew Susan and 3(?) of her brothers had reformed and did some shows.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17pm

I think it's just two brothers. John tours with the Beach Boys as their drummer.

I heard a really interesting & good indie '90s Cowsills 45 when it came out- no idea what it was or who put it out
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18pm

okay. i read it a while back, along with sad tales of disharmony between her and some of the others.

They went from go-go dancer pop and garage to sunshine pop.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19pm

Susan was in this band called the Continental Drifters I saw at this basement dump in Hollywood called Raji's. She was in overalls with bare feet!

Got milk?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:30pm

Considering their image, a milk commercial is pretty meta. They wrote it, too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:30pm

i don't remember any of those cowsills milking cows in that advert
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31pm

@Erica - She had some great tutors in her big brothers

I'm not kidding about Twilley. I saw him with John and Susan at a really tiny venue near Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park, CA. Hoping you'll spin some of those tracks.

Also I have a question: do you guys like my 1st name or username? Sorry I keep switching between them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21pm

@Dean - I didn't think you were. I'm just not working that far out in the web. I will in the future.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21pm
Franco Twinkie:

I'd go with Erica.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21pm
Funky16Corners:

@Erica - The shorter user name is easier to type, which helps in the chat
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22pm
Franco Twinkie:

Yeah but...Erica Kane!
  11:22pm
Dean:

Gotcha. The stuff I heard was well over ten years after what you're playing right now.
Avatar 11:22pm

Actually Franco, my mom named my after Erica Kane from All My Children.

I love your mom!
Avatar 11:24pm
Erica:

I'm sure she'd like you too if she met you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28pm
Franco Twinkie:

Well, my sister and I started watching All My Children as bored teenagers in the summer of 1971. Later, when we left home, my mother had become addicted, and she kept up on the shennagins of Erica and the others. (remember Jesse?)
  11:29pm

Even without hearing most of this it's kind of fun just to read the song titles.
Avatar 11:32pm
Erica:

If they released any more albums in 1972-1981 which they didn't, they'd probably turn into one of those soft Rock bands.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32pm
Franco Twinkie:

Yeah you were probably an infant when Jesse was on. Surely you know the song Erica Kane by Urge Overkill?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32pm
coelacanth∅:

Erica @11.20 go with what you like. many people will shorten it or create a nick name out of it anyway. (as i already did when i said hi before)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33pm
coelacanth∅:

very csn-ish, this
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33pm
Funky16Corners:

@Erica - Wait til you hear the Bill Cowsill solo styff. There are definitely traces of Big Star-ish power pop.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34pm
Funky16Corners:

@C - There's a lot of stuff from the last two albums that sounds like CSN(Y)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34pm
Franco Twinkie:

Rw! Didn't it feel like August today?
  11:35pm
Dean:

Seems The Cowsills encountered a bit of controversy with the Remo Capra tune. Evidently, The Beatles' "Ballad of John and Yoko" was at risk of being banned, and for some reason so was the Cowsills' tune for being "offensive" or "blasphemous."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35pm
coelacanth∅:

i like it; though the early, quartet stuff may be more my cuppa.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36pm
Funky16Corners:

@Dean - I did not know that! I can see why.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38pm
Funky16Corners:

Wow! I just looked and that song charted Top 40 in a bunch of markets! I'm shocked.
  11:38pm
Dean:

This was reported in the June 28, 1969, Billboard. Remo appears many times in the press, especially around 1960.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39pm
Funky16Corners:

Do you know anything else about him?
  11:42pm
Dean:

I don't, but I have access to databases that report one way or another on him.
  11:42pm
rw:

Hey FT! Yeah, I normally try to do a bike ride in the afternoon if I'm working from home but ditched it to have a a few beers with a couple friends instead. It was nice but now I feel a little like a slug.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43pm
Funky16Corners:

It was humid AF in NJ today. It's OK though, it'll be over in October.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43pm
Franco Twinkie:

Okay, time to come clean. with the exception of the top hits, I never heard any of this stuff in real time. And been the budding music snob that I was, I would have hated it if I did. Time changes every thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45pm
Funky16Corners:

I think with a lot of the harmony pop, if the sound hits you in your pleasure centers (as it does to me) you seek it out in all forms, following it down all kinds of dark, unexplored alleys.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46pm
Jeff Ash:

G'night, Larry! Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47pm
Funky16Corners:

Nite Jeff!

East Coast humidity. Can't even imagine. Sorry, man. Digging the harmony pop though!
  11:48pm
Dean:

Disc magazine, July 9, 1960: "Remo Capra, new singer on the Columbia label, is billed as 'The Romantic Debonair.' Remo, who works by day as a supervisor for an excavation company, makes his bow with 'Just Say I Love Her' and 'Fools Rush In.'"
  11:49pm

If the coffee on my desk isn't growing mold it's safe to drink, right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50pm
Funky16Corners:

@Dean - I think it's the same guy as the crooner. How he ended up writing an apocalyptic song, I have no idea
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50pm
Franco Twinkie:

The early '70's were a very divisive time in pop music. I was fifteen in 1971 and could only concern myself with what was counter culture approved. In retrospect I missed alot.

Will you please play Covered Wagon, the Cowsills comeback single?

Rw boil the coffee just in case
  11:55pm

I don't mind old coffee, but mold? Really?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57pm
