He delivered the button-down comedy that helped win the war.

...unless he woke up in bed w/ Suzanne Pleshette & it was all a bad national nightmare...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:07pm

hee hee...the 'motor pool driving instructor' bit always kills.

hello alls. sounding great on the ol' transistor radio.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:15pm
dale:

bob newhart mst have gotten the part because don rickles was unavailable.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:17pm
dale:

god forbid there is zero pro-war sentiment in this country.
  7:17pm
JakeGould:

War seemed so much better in the 1950s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22pm
dale:

war seemed so much groovier in the 70s.
  7:23pm
JakeGould:

Bob Newhart’s ability to pretend he was talking on the phone to someone else tricked the enemy for just long enough so the rest of the troops could be saved.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:23pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...whose thinking SammyDavis?...
  7:24pm
JakeGould:

@dale: Yeah, all that PTSD and Vietnam and heroin.

Anyone else remember that episode of “Baretta” where he was trying to help a junkie friend and kept on feeding him chocolate and orange juice?
  7:25pm
JakeGould:

“Where Eagles Dare” is one of those double/triple-cross films where it took me two viewings and a couple of days to completely figure out the plot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:25pm
dale:

"imagine adolf hitler and winston churchill having a phone conversation....and it might go.....a little something....like this. 'adolf - adolf baby!'"
  7:25pm
Zetti:

I gotta revisit some of these films especially now for the music.
  7:26pm
andrewb:

God dammit, I was gonna say where eagles dare. This film was played annually in Britain. Clint with two machine guns YEAH! but the Misfits song is better
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:26pm
ultradamno:

I think I forgot the part where The Dirty Dozen all got "excited" together in a human tangle.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27pm
dale:

the movies channel (5.2) played some recently but they only seemed to be ones with george kennedy in them.

...*who's
...LeeMarvin & JamesCoburn...the Yin & Yang of the Universe...AlanWatts had a thing about it
...ok - I'm no good @ WarMovie chat...
  7:27pm
JakeGould:

Even though two ska bands covered it, I think it’s amazing “Guns of Navarone” got so muck ska-mileage.
  7:29pm
JakeGould:

…got so MUCH ska-mileage.
  7:31pm
andrewb:

I honestly can't think of a truly bad ska song.
  7:34pm
andrewb:

compared with rock, country ,disco where i can think of hundreds
  7:35pm
JakeGould:

I think if WFMU had a 24/7 ska stream that would be something.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:38pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I always think there should be a 24/7 of every Genre or Thang - just dial it in when you want it...For bad - there's '3rd Wave' ska like 'NoDoubt'...but nevermind that...
  7:40pm
JakeGould:

Will say this: David Niven doesn’t look like he could throw a grenade let alone be a demolition’s expert in “The Guns of Navarone.” Him and Bob Newhart should have made a film: “The Inconceivables”
  7:44pm
andrewb:

I wasn't really thinking ska revival. Plenty of duds there though No doubt were pretty solid. always felt fishbone opened and closed the door there
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:48pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

People tell me Fishbone would hit the stage tossing their instruments to each other all the way across...
Don't know why don't hear more early Shadows - it's like UK Ventures - kewl as hell...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:53pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:53pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Majestic & Eerie @ turns this Hermann - great score for great film.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:57pm
dale:

david niven was everywhere for a decade. then he died, of course.
  7:58pm
JakeGould:

Yeah, dying can stop you being everywhere like that.
  8:00pm
JakeGould:

Imagine David Niven and Vincent Price arm wrestling. Ain’t that a sight!
