	♥ 9:15pm melinda: I've only ever used the box-type trap. We set the mouse free across the road, so it might have come right back to the house.
	9:16pm still b/p: Not one, but maybe two oxbow lakes along the ssssssinuous river?! In a recent article locally about mice getting into greenhouses and how growers deal with them, someone claimed success baiting standard traps with pink Starburst candy.

	♥ 9:18pm coelacanth∅: a few years ago i had mice in my apartment. (i have one now too but there's hardly any evidence so i just forget about himher) i set peanut butter in a hav-a-heart trap caught one let it go a few miles away, across a river. caught another, then another etc. until i'd caught 11. some of them went to that spot across the river and some went behind the supermarket, if i was heading that way. never had a problem since.

	9:19pm Sam Segal: My girlfriend and I have actually been on the market for a cat, @Ike. Thanks for recommending this shelter!

	9:25pm Sam Segal: I have been trying the sticky traps, and I keep catching the mice on them, but then they get away before I have the guts to pick em up and take em outside. I need to try the humane traps ya'll are suggesting.
	9:26pm northguineahills: Back in Brooklyn, we had mice for a while (due to the restaurant downstairs). While watching a movie w/ the wife one evening and I saw coming into the room out of the corner if my. I was wearing ankle boots and thought I stomp the floor (my wife was freaked out by them). Unfortunately, it ran right underneath my heal and I mortally wounded it. I put it out its misery and threw it out the window into the restaurant's trash area. I caught and released 4 more in the next few months, We never had another problem after that.
	9:27pm Sam Segal: How did you catch and release them, @NGH? With your hands or a trap?
	♥ 9:27pm coelacanth∅: Sam they work well and a whole lot less disgusting. they only require a bit more patience.
	9:31pm northguineahills: The box traps didn't work, and my vegan wife glue traps when i was out b/c she was so frustrated (always nice to have mice in your pantry and silverware drawers) she actually got a glue trap. I got home after a night out w/ my mates and she doing the mouse dance in the other room on the couch. To my horror, there was a mouse in the glue trap. I got a bucket of water and drowned it before discarding it. Sam, I used tupperware and cornered them and scooped them up quickly and put the lid on ran downstairs and threw them next door (Wow, I was a crappy neighbor!).

	♥ 9:42pm coelacanth∅: i did catch a large mama rat in my garden once, snuck up behind her with a 1q plastic "to go" container while she was trying to dig out the hole i'd filled in. i'd already accidentally killed her whole lot of babies when i jammed a garden fork into the ground repeatedly to turn the soil over, not knowing they were there. i intended to relocate her. by the time i got to my car (maybe 3 minutes?) she'd almost chewed her way out. she was pissed and hammering so hard against the lid that i literally broke a sweat trying to hold the lid on. . i tried to transport her from the plastic container to a stainless steel saucepan i had in the car, but she wasn't having it. it didn't end well. unwell enough that i'm still horified thinking about it.

	♥ 9:43pm Ike: Sure, Sam! I've never actually adopted a cat at BARC but they are a venerable and well-regarded org. I would also recommended For Animals inc. in the Slope (where I got my feline fuzzbucket) or Sean Casey in Kensington but if you're still in the northern realms of Brooklyn, those are a little far. BARC is much closer to you, I'd imagine.

	10:00pm still b/p: Guys I knew in the midwest advised pant-cuffs tied off or tucked into tops of socks while shelling corn. Otherwise, mice run up the legs.

	10:05pm Sam Segal: Never had the guts to kill a bee...bees truly scare the shit outta me, and I am not even allergic.

	♥ 10:12pm coelacanth∅: i sometimes am up to my chest in flowers that are a buzzing, densely populated party of various kinds of bees. i'm pulling weeds, bending down to get the roots, working gently but steadily in the middle of the flowers, among the bees. i've never gotten stung and would never intentionally kill a bee. yellowjackets are another story. bastards!

	10:13pm northguineahills: Depending on the species of wasps, many are fine if you don't mess w/ them. Yellowjackets and some other species, dead on site!

	10:14pm TDK60: ..luckily most bees chill and wander off if you leave 'em alone; humans who swat at them err. // I was once attacked by 30+ yellow jackets, had mistakenly disturbed their ground nest: electric ouch!
	♥ 10:17pm coelacanth∅: yes ngh, i've never had a problem with the very large black wasps, the black and orange ones, or the enormous cicada killers. but i've been chased across 2 acres by yellowjackets just because i was working within maybe 25 feet to where they were. been stung (and bit, most likely, since they do that as well) by them dozens of times.
	10:18pm northguineahills: As a kid of 13, I once was playing baseball and went to grab a ball in a hedge, my hand went through a yellow jacket nest. My hand blew up like an inflated glove. Been stung by bees, but not since I was 8, and even then it didn't bother m.

	10:23pm TDK60: ..in my yellow jack. attack above I was standing about 30 feet above a cold mountain stream; from a steep cliff I quickly jumped/slid all the way down rocks & dirt into water, ridding me of the Y.J.s, easing the pain, lucky.
	10:24pm still b/p: I leave them alone mostly, even close flyers. Strangest surprise sting: driving with window open, something came like a medium velocity line-drive into the car and right into my forehead. As I reached to pinch it away, and before I could finish saying to self, " I hope that's not a...." I wuz stung.
	10:27pm still b/p: And they can be pretty specific in targeting. When I was in the woods chopping at a down tree, I disturbed some from a ground nest and they came up to sting my hands a few times, "The hands, the hands are responsible! Get the hands!"
	10:27pm Sam Segal: I got a surprise sting opening up the outdoor trashcan right before heading to a job interview!
	♥ 10:27pm melinda: I caught my cat in a humane trap baited with tuna. She had been missing for 3 days and I was lucky enough to find a local cat rescue org that knew how to lure lost cats.

	♥ 10:46pm coelacanth∅: melinda, yeah, the cupboard marmosets used to eat the liquor-filled chocolates and cause a lot of trouble, but since i stopped having those in the house they've been fine. we have a good arrangement.
	10:47pm culprit: Sorry to be late to the mouse party, but I was painting while listening to your show. Someone DID build a better mousetrap--it's an electricution chamber that zaps them immediately--fast, no pain & suffering. They're only about $25 and re-usable. You only need one to catch all 8 mice. Best bait to put inside is a piece of your dog's kibble.

	10:51pm northguineahills: Once as a kid I was on the bank of a creek, and I fell through a fire ant nest. Falling in the water didn't help any, they are tenacious fuckers. I was bedridden for about half a week. (friend pulled me out of the creek and got a few bites himself.

	♥ 11:01pm coelacanth∅: that sucks ngh. i can imagine their tenacity. the common "big" ants latch their pincers onto what they perceive as a threat and that's that. you either let it stay or you kill it. if you try to pick it up with a piece of paper and it sees the paper as an enemy it latches on. - and i can say with experience that even the small common ants bite. if you get enough bites it becomes a rash.

Strangest surprise sting: driving with window open, something came like a medium velocity line-drive into the car and right into my forehead. 	10:27pm still b/p: And they can be pretty specific in targeting. When I was in the woods chopping at a down tree, I disturbed some from a ground nest and they came up to sting my hands a few times, "The hands, the hands are responsible! Get the hands!"

Someone DID build a better mousetrap--it's an electricution chamber that zaps them immediately--fast, no pain & suffering. They're only about $25 and re-usable. You only need one to catch all 8 mice. Best bait to put inside is a piece of your dog's kibble.
