Sending good vibes for the move! I've been in the same apt. since 1999 and the prospect of moving does not appeal.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07am
Uncle Michael:

We're 21 years in one place, too. When we move, we'll wish it was an apartment. Three buildings worth of crap....
  9:08am
Gary via app:

I’ve moved so many times I can’t count. Lots of purges. They feel good. But occasional nostalgia for certain books. I haven’t purged any CDs since I moved to New York in 97, but I now regret purging quite a trove of cassettes a decade or so ago
Avatar 9:08am
TDK60:

Good luck with your move. Gets harder as you age. Time to get rid of extra weight, maybe. // This tune I first heard via Santana--a good version too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10am
listener james from westwood:

I've done book purges before, but the cutting-to-the-bone nature of a move purge . . . that's a hard one.
By contrast, I recently did a huge CD purge and found it weirdly easy. Prob. b.c a lot were from the 90s and the person who bought those CDs is not the person I am now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11am
fred:

I'd hate to move, though I might have to do so soon. New laws meant to foster "social consistency" (read "racial segregation") may end up forcing me out of my non-white comfort zone
Avatar 9:14am
TDK60:

Fred, that's horrible but still a factor in our "free" society. Hope it doesn't occur with you. // The Santana LP was Caravanserai, in '72, a pretty album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:15am
Jeff Golick:

Thanks for the good move wishes, all! Hoping to only miss one show.

And a hearty welcome to @listener james! and @Gary!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17am
Uncle Michael:

Good move wishes, my ass. I recommend barricading yourselves in, and going out in a blaze of glory.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18am
Jeff Golick:

@fred: that sounds...distressing. Is that a national thing, or city-based?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21am
Jeff Golick:

@UM: we've considered it, but the kids...gotta think of the kids.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22am

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23am

Don't mind me. I've watched eight Marvel Comics Universe Films so far this week.
Avatar 9:25am
TDK60:

Hillage was one who kept the Psychedelic goin' thru the '70s when others had gone Arena Rock. // "Property Is Theft" said Proudhon, and it sill is.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25am

@UM: Aha. Makes sense now. It was either that, or a John Ford retrospective.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26am
Jeff Golick:

@TDK60: and Proudhon never tried to rent an apartment in NYC (that I know of).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28am
Jeff Golick:

"Musick" -- that extra K signifies so much, doesn't it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34am
Jeff Golick:

I feel like I should make sure everyone has a ride home after this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35am
fred:

@Jeff: racism is a factor, more as an unintended side-effect in my case (if non-whites are to be relocated to my building, I should make room). I think it's also an excuse to get rid of long-term tenants and raise the rent

@Sem: hopefully I'll get twice more in the next batch. But I'm already very excited to see Rain (for the fifth or sixth time), with Ictus playing Steve Reich's music for 18 musicians. I might even go another time if I can get a seat with a different angle

TDK60:

Crosby now says he was a putz for having said that @ Miles' version. / Early 80s I DJed at a club, played this late. / Got irritated with liner notes on CD that seemed to put this down as too languorous. So?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07am
Jeff Golick:

Yeah, as I understand it, the context for hearing it wasn't ideal. Miles invited him over (this is circa 1969) to play it for him, went into his bedroom with his lady friend, and left Crosby to listen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08am
Jeff Golick:

Geez, this tune has already been played on the station *this year.* Gotta do my homework...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10am
fred:

@Jeff: WFMU DJ problem
Avatar 11:10am
TDK60:

Also heard; at an earlier time Miles was key in getting Byrds signed up. // Jeff: maybe Guinnevere is climbing the WFMU Charts!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12am
Stanley:

Thinking this has got to be Miles Davis.
(Gets off arse to check - yes. Assumes previous position).
Nice
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15am
fred:

Nice to see that the irregular "heavily played records" chart is back. When people ask me about the station, I sometimes point to it. When they say "but I don't know any of these", I reply "that's the point". Sometimes it fails, and the answer I get is "hey, I'm on that record", which actually works too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15am
Jeff Golick:

Well done, @Stanely.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16am
Jeff Golick:

I knew the Crosby/Miles story, but if I hadn't known it, I'd have guessed the tune was "Hotel California," and David Crosby would have had a point.

Oh, @Dean. Hello, @Dean.

I've heard him play this tune solo in a piano store in downtown Oakland.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am
Jeff Golick:

Whoa.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27am
fred:

I'd guess that Crosby helped himself to the booze/drug stash at hand -- understandable in that setting -- and maybe didn't have a clear recollection of the music
Avatar 11:41am
TDK60:

Used to not like the John W.H. album...that changed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43am
