	10:33am fred: @Jeff: 2011 in Paris (cité de la musique). It was supposed to be with Amiri Baraka, but they had a fight before the show and performed separately (Cecil went second). Two great people, two fiery tempers
	10:36am Jeff Golick: Wow, yeah. I am grateful that Jeff J pretty much made us see Cecil every time he played out in NYC from the mid-1990s on.

	10:38am Dean: 2011 is around the time he played Grace Cathedral in SF, a show I missed, but a buddy saw it. Said it was sublime. Taylor played the space.
	10:45am fred: One think that struck me was the hostility from some musicians (especially Jazz pianists) at work when Cecil died. Ornette didn't get that all or nothing vibe, he got at least grudging respect. Cecil touched a nerve

	10:57am fred: I think it's also because Jazz is so conservative over here. Tied to the postwar glory days, and very expensive. Going to a Jazz venue is a status thing here, basically junior opera house. It's reductive of course, but the conservative vibe runs deep, even with amateur jazz musicians

	11:36am coelacanth∅: ....maybe if i could get the pop-up to work on this computer it'd sound okay; but on my old macbook it sounds pretty bad. (& it cuts out periodically and stops sometimes and causes other functions to freeze) the "128MP3" archives sound great on it, (as do music files played using "mplayer") so it's not a sound problem with the computer.
