Favoriting Bryce: Playlist from April 6, 2018 Favoriting

I never miscue a record. I am punctual, well-prepared, and dislike clutter. Outgoing and helpful, I'm always appropriately dressed. I do not behave erratically and have excellent penmanship. My CD's never skip, and I am in good health. I like all the notes, in any order.

@Cecile - JA played a short set earlier this AM. www.wfmu.org...

Cool. I already listened to Doug's.

I also just was introduced to Turkish whistling language. Mind-blowing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm

turkish whistling language? hmmm.
Avatar 1:01pm
Bryce:

wow, what's that??

yeah, just found out about mr. taylor. :( i'd like to take a little time and put together something nice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm
Mike da Scag:

Yeah, I saw a short documentary on Bolivian whistling language. Used to communicate from one hillside to another. For management of livestock initially. But then it evolved to include a variety of topics.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm
coelacanth∅:

it was frustrating last night that people kept editing and re-editing wikipedia's Cecil Taylor page with/without an end date to his life. then someone put at the top a banner that said some presume he dies but nothing is reliable...and the only other thing on a googoo search was twitter entries.
...but - he's around 90 so i thought it probably true.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm
coelacanth∅:

-rest in peace
...long live Cecil.
Avatar 1:07pm
Cecile:

What Mida said. It's mainly used in mountainous regions, and the whistles can carry up to several kilometers. Each type of whistle corresponds to a syllable in whatever language is normally spoken.

Some folks even come up with their own code to avoid nosy neighbors.

If you don't like the Wiki article on Cecil Taylor then try Encyclopaedia Britannica. They actually have some quality control.

hello peops
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm
coelacanth∅:

i've never seen that happen on wikipedia. i think ultimately the articles are mostly truthful (despite what seems to be a war on logical use of plurals and singulars). i don't trust any one source for the bottom line though.

Wild Neil||Peace All:

@WOO AND OTHERS: Encyclopedia Brittanica is at my local library, and also is available as a database on your local library system, ask a librarian. It is probably better than Wikipedia, although it, too, probably has an agenda and axe to grind. All news is biased.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm

unless i'm desperate i wont subject my laptop to the brittanica's ads and hype. it maybe does have a more dictatorial form of quality control, which may be more reliable in general; but often seems to skim over subjects to lightly. (their article on Cecil Taylor being one good example)

a little late to the conversation here - but one thing about Wikipedia is that it's actually sitting on loads of cash - most of it unrestricted - my concern is that they divert needed donations away from smaller non-profits
