I'm early again!

Little Danny:

Hi Melinda! There's never a bad time to show up!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05pm
Little Danny:

How are you tonight, Melinda?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05pm
coelacanth∅:

greetings Danny and melinda and flamers not visible, as they're still in the closet!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08pm
Little Danny:

Hi Coel! I am using my limited powers of telepathic persuasion to roust said flamers
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08pm
coelacanth∅:

..."big fat woman"?;"organ grinders"?! ...and i was worried about using the term "flamers"!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10pm
Little Danny:

Haha, yes! After 10pm language becomes coarser here, as in life
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10pm

(though i think it's understood it's meant in a most affectionate way)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10pm

I'm looking forward to a hot bath and my new pajamas, along with the cool flamey tunes.

Huh... whaazat...? Something told me...to respond to roll call. I had to obey.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12pm
Little Danny:

Still b/p! You behaved correctly
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12pm
coelacanth∅:

somehow that sounds wonderful,melinda...even though it's been my choice to have not taken a bath in a decade or 2; and i haven't owned pajamas since before i moved out of my mother's house.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13pm
Little Danny:

You're living the dream, Melinda. That sounds lovely
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14pm

I like the Spacemen 3. I think I have a little scrap of paper somewhere with their name on it, from the days of radio listening before clicky stars.
Avatar 10:14pm

There is no more WTF fact in music, for me, than this: Pete Kember (aka Sonic Boom) and Jason Pierce (aka J. Spaceman) of Spacemen 3 WERE BOTH BORN ON NOV. 19, 1965, IN RUGBY.

people are always telling me to check something out. huge fire hazard.

Bingo, @jaywbabcock! The best I could think of was Bach and Handel, both born early 1685. Two days from today: the birthday of the glorious JSB.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17pm

@Melinda: I still have a notepad file with names and titles and links to playlists from a '90s job

Friend of mine works at the flotation tank place. Tempted to try it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19pm

i'd do that if i could afford to.

This is an incredible Kevin Ayers song, and clearly the inspiration for Hypnotized, wow!!!!!
Avatar 10:19pm
jaywbabcock:

Yes, I think it was the same hospital, will have to double-check that
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21pm
Little Danny:

@JWB: The Ayers is shockingly contemporary-sounding. I mean, like, unbelievably
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24pm
melinda:

@b/p I liked the flotation tank.
  10:25pm
Dean:

Beg to differ. We might just as easily assert that the Ayers is shockingly medieval-sounding. Ayers is a source of nostalgia for me, not because I heard a lot of his work at the time--I didn't--but because I saw his product and often wondered about it. I've recently been acquiring it. I hear nothing especially "contemporary" about it, and that's just fine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26pm
coelacanth∅:

starting in jr.high school i kept a notebook by the radio and wrote down everything i liked. then i included things i didn't like or only kinda liked, with notation about why i didn't love it -just to remember. kids were always amazed because i knew every band they'd mention. i stopped sometime in high school but it got pretty big, and i knew all of it in my head. i don't now! and wouldn't like much of what's in the list. i may still have it, somewhere.
Avatar 10:28pm
still b/p:

Staffer says some love it, some not so much. One guy had a hard time settling, but after he finally did he emerged in a sort of stoned state for 20 minutes. I think it’d be a guaranteed good button & zone for me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32pm
coelacanth∅:

i don't take baths because it bores me and i lay there thinking about other things i could be doing. i'd like to try the flotation tank. i never considered that it might affect me similarly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35pm
coelacanth∅:

while it was playing the Kevin Ayers track never struck me as anything but good. certainly not from another time.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46pm
Little Danny:

It was just the start of a weirdo jazz segment, coel
Avatar 📉 Swag For Life Member 10:49pm
JtotheK:

'weirdo jazz segment' -- keep 'em coming! this kenny graham was featured in a book i read recently (and i can't think of the title at the moment...) and is yet another to add to the want list.
  10:50pm
Dean:

I say "medieval" not because it invokes another time (though it does that, too), but because it's formally right, and also because it reminds me of the songs troubadours delivered to their "ladies," for example, "now she is mine." But like LD, I have only just started hearing KA. Mostly, I regret not having picked up every album back in the day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51pm
Little Danny:

J2tK: It's pretty attainable in the scheme of things. And a very good LP
  10:52pm
Dean:

I'll add that I really enjoy the fact that a Kevin Ayers song prompts a discussion about the aesthetics of rock.
Avatar 📉 Swag For Life Member 10:54pm
JtotheK:

re: kevin ayers -- i'm much (much) more familiar with the musical output of his cousin Roy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56pm
Little Danny:

@Dean: The two Ayers albums that I've listened to recently (also including Joy of a Toy) have held up incredibly well to my ears. I'd just never taken an interest before due to his involvement with proggy British music. I'm a fool

JtotheK:

whoa this tito puente 45 is great. did he do an entire series of philosophy mambo 45s that I need to know about?
  11:01pm
Dean:

Agreed, completely. I flipped through the Ayers LPs zillions of times during the '70s and '80s. I might have acquired his work at the time precisely because I associated him with "proggy British music," but his work was too much the singer/songwriter, as opposed to the virtuoso (Camel, Hatfield, Caravan...). Those distinctions are less important to me now.
  11:11pm
Dean:

A qualification: "those distinctions" are not as important, BUT I recently listened to Yes's Yessongs, wherein the virtuosity is utterly stunning. So, I do credit remarkable demonstrations of instrumental excellence.

danny, speaking of soul 45s ... i procured a Charles Sheffield "It's Your Voodoo Working" on Excello recently. area shop gave to me as a freebie since it was my birthday. i saw your post about that 45 on naps, so wanted to share!
  11:19pm
still b/p:

Re quality — just thought maybe someone in the engineering seat for the track had decided to play with a glaze of phasing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm

That's a helluva freebie, Jason! Deserved tho. And happy birthday!
