	3:10am pacific standard simon: The last week, I've been reading a wonderful book about 20th century music titled The Rest Is Noise. I'm sure it's old news to many, but I found it at a library sale for a dollar.
	3:11am markr: We're still about $300,000 short of our goal, so if you haven't pledged yet, now would be a good time to do so. How about a $1 a day Mouse-of-Today Pledge? You get so much swag, you won't know what to do with it. I'm not talking to you Simon--thank you for your continuing generous support of our little experiment in social disruption. No, I'm talking to the rest of you--come on now, we've got a leak in the roof (among a million other issues/situations). 	3:19am markr: I inherited that Shrine album, too. It was a box with like 10 45s you had to play individually. It was a great album but a total pain in the ass to play. Is the Ahmad Jamal album the one with "Poinciana" on it, "Live at the Pershing"? That's a good one.

	3:34am markr: I just noticed there's sort of an ELO quality to this song isn't there? The vocals, the strings...
	3:35am pacific standard simon: I had a strange kind of father, who wanted to fuck everything in sight, and collected souvenirs, like records by artists he'd seen while picking up girls. Ew.

Walk Away Renee is a great song (one of my fave High School songs). I actually went to High School with Billy Joel (the piano man)...He was two grades above me, but I didn't know him. His band "The Hassles" played at my gf's Junior Prom!!!

	3:43am markr: It was kind of funny, Simon--when my mom passed away, my brother split up my parents' record collection, and we took the ones we wanted and went to sell the ones we didn't, and the guy at the record store said he really had no use for the ones by "dead white guys" (a la Kenton), he said nobody ever bought 'em. But Miles, Art Blakey, those would sell--of course, those are the ones my brother and I wanted to keep! He got first pick because he was the oldest, and he picked "Miles Davis at the Blackhawk." I got the first Jazz Messengers record, back when Horace Silver was probably the leader. I still have a big box of Mom & Dad's records (the Bill & Dot collection), and every couple months I'll pull one out and play it a few times. This month's selection is "Sarah Vaughan Sings the George Gershwin Songbook." Haven't listened to it yet, but I'm sure it's great.
	3:54am pacific standard simon: I know what you mean, Mark, because I've been there, but I would keep both the Miles and the Sarah Vaughan. I adore everything in the Gershwin songbook.
	3:56am markr: Well, my brother beat me to the Miles, but I bought my own copy of that album on CD anyway. I have Ella singing the Gershwin songbook too! BTW there's a lot of info on Tom Constanten on his wikipedia page if you're interested.
	3:58am pacific standard simon: Miles doing "If I Were A Bell" is as much heaven to me as the Dead doing their best song ever.
	3:59am markr: I concur. There are about a million live versions of it, too--all different, all great.

	5:18am markr: Take a look at the playlist and tell me another station (including Spotify etc.) that can deliver you a breadth of sounds like this. An algorithm can only tell you what you already like. Only a fellow weirdo can tell you what you don't know you like yet. Come on--station manager Ken literally has a hole in the wall of his office that he stuffs a tennis ball in to keep mice and squirrels from overrunning his office. I'm not making this up. If you can spare a few dollars ($10 or $20 a month, maybe?) we can REALLY use it.

Come on--station manager Ken literally has a hole in the wall of his office that he stuffs a tennis ball in to keep mice and squirrels from overrunning his office. I'm not making this up. If you can spare a few dollars ($10 or $20 a month, maybe?) we can REALLY use it.
