A personal question Mr DJ. Is it odd being on air just after the crashing end of WFMUstock?

My Dad told me earlier today/yesterday he saw The Stooges in '69. I said "How were they?". He said "I thought they sucked and the singer was thrashing around'. My father saw The Stooges thought they were terrible. :( That's like almost against the law, right?

@ Rory -- well, not against "Dad" laws . . . but your Dad is YOUNG! young enough to NOT be from my Dad's generation -- DAMN!
my best friend in high school used to babysit for a couple who owned the second Velvet Underground LP -- by then (mid-1970s, my mid-teenage years) that album was like my Bible . . . when i asked about it, the wife said something like, "oh, that's all just noise" . . . !!!

West coast rock palaces tended to be conversions from other things -- ice skating rinks, auto showrooms --too much cash outlay to add seats.

Jeff, in your opinion, if you were going to give a Grateful Dead album to someone who’s never heard one, which would it be?
Avatar 1:18am
Jeff Conklin:

@Borba: I'd need to know what kind of music they listen to. If they like their folk/country rock, go American Beauty or Workingman's Dead. If they listen to a lot of psych, Live/Dead. If they love all of that, Europe 72.

Or first Garcia solo. Everyone can love that...

@El Borba no prob. My other answer would be "listen to Jeff's show" :)
  1:36am

I’m with you, @Wavy - at this time, Europe ‘72 is go-to. But I’ll check out Skull & Roses.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39am

I like Europe 72 also, but it can be a little overwhelming for the novice. The closing of The Fillmore bootleg is pretty darn good, too.

I dunno. Scarlet Begonias is like one of the sweetest jams they ever wrote. Unbroken Chain is def in my top 5 Bobby tunes. To each his own, but I love that album :)

US Blues is a live tune. Doesn't make a ton of sense on that record; and yeah, it's pretty goofy but Man, they have far worse
