There are two shows on FMU that make me wish I lived in NYC: Fabio's, so I could see all the movies he talks about playing in the city, and yours, so I could catch these wonderful performances live. Hearing them here is the very next best thing!

Yes it is a weird. But since the artists are Black Africans with Albinism it makes sense. They are horribly discriminated against and were often actually killed in rural areas

WBAI Free Music Store archives would be good! Citizen Kafka told me that the recordings of the last Free Music store series, in 1983, which he curated, were all taped over by other WBAI factions.

Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:23pm

@Henry: I have also been the victim of finding WBAI tapes erased to save a few bucks (most memorable, Philip Glass and Burroughs opening statements at the Nova Festival in 1976). Oy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm

bai was a serious mess when i used to live in range and listen. a lot of internal harassment and hypocrisy. is it better now?

intra-left infighting seemed perpetual at WBAI. I surrendered and haven't tuned there in aeons
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:32pm

Fuckin' Christ. Why didn't they just have a fistfight if they had such beefs w/ each other? Flesh heals; tape doesn't!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:34pm
david w:

To be fair, there are amazing people there to this day, fighting the good fight. But there are issues...
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:34pm
listener james from westwood:

Yet think of how fortunate we are that WFMU archives virtually e v e r y t h i n g, and when they don't there's a very good reason that they disclose for not doing so. We are so damn lucky.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm

david @4.39 - it's pretty remarkable considering what they were up against. (the anti-progressive emi geezers) the Geoff Emerick book is interesting, if you haven't read it. (a little biased maybe, to the benefit of McCartney; but still good)
apparently they had 4 track machines gathering dust in closets (& 8-tracks?) awaiting "testing procedures"...while in the u.s. multitrack taping was in full gear. finally the beatles just took the machines out and used them - because they were The Beatles.
