I wish I had donated to you some ringtones. The sounds of a steel bowl being knocked against the tap as water shifts in it is both beautiful and profoundly irritating.
Today's the golden opportunity day for Ken is in his most receptive state of DJ mind. And we all know what that means! He shall be morally obliged to play our most prohibited requests in exchange of sweet pledges. Barenaked Ladies! Rush! Pat Metheny! Here they come!
PEACE all. Ok, I pledged and paid. My wife will ask "WHY?!" I owe WFMU so much, it was the least I could do. Good luck with the Marathon! Ken, can you play some Blues Traveler? They did Gloria by Them if you can find it.......according to the WFMU band browser WFMU has NEVER played it! I get the impression WFMU thinks Blues Traveler sucks. Not sure why, I think they are pretty good! A little corny, maybe....but if you can play Styx, why not play BT?
FiiFii, are you saying Listener Robert autocorrects to Negative Ken? Neither of us got to use our regular names as handles, so that must throw off autocorrect.
What's this I hear about a a petition to create a national holiday for Bill Graham? He was a decent concert promoter, but I don't think any concert promoter deserves a national holiday.
Stepchild, I've heard that if you call in the pledge and tell the volunteer to use your screen name, that sometimes works. Or put it in the comments section of your pledge form if you pledge online.
I'm in for $50 if today, at 11am (eastern usa time zone), during his regular show, Ken plays the original, unmutilated in any way, felder version/heavy metal album release takin' a ride/heavy metal song, in its entirety, uninterrupted for any reason, and then says he really does love that song in a sincere voice
Good morning everyone! The volunteers are taking over People Like Us account! Pledge your heart out! We want to hear your calls and talk to you! Lets be all be one!
Ken, do you know the WFMU audio on internet is interrupted (silence) for a few seconds every once in a while? Started noticing last night on Irene's show.

Disclaimer: some would say it is biased, but I think it is fair.
I think I want to get a Wineguard omnidirectional FM antenna and put it outside. However, I have a Tivoli stereo that has a very good tuner and built in antenna. Thoughts?
Volounteer Carlo is from Portugal. He may be able to shed some light on Chad Kroeger's eternal question...

This is Tantric Marathon Sex - I want to pledge now (ejaculation metaphor) but I am waiting, withstaining(not staining???), waiting to soak(sex metaphor) Andy....
wild neil - i have a model one and sometimes i have to move the long wire it came with around to get a station, so an outdoor antenna might be a good idea. have you tried an fm dipole like the ones that come with stereo receivers?
@Dale, no long wire came with mine. I heard it has a cell phone chip inside! I tried a home made one but I need to use a 75 ohm balun for the Coax connection. I should try that with a factory made antenna! Its only a couple of bucks!
Hey everybody, don't wait until week 2 to pledge like everybody else! DO IT NOW and you have a better chance of winning a prize, plus you'll make the DJs less anxious!
@Stevel-horses are awesome creatures! I had a couple lessons at a local ranch. They have a donkey named donkey.
@Dale, no bluetooth on mine. Guess I misunderstood.
try some rabbit ears if you have any around. fm radio is basically where channel 6 is on the vhf band. not that it would be permanent but just to see if it improves reception.
Don't listen to Vicki, she's from dahn sarf and says "Clarss" instead of class, "Glarss" instead of glass and "Grarss" instead of grass, among other abominations!
The great thing about British people is you can’t tell if they mispronounced something or pronouncing it better than us. I’ll donate 20 more if Delia says aluminum
I was hanging out in a farmers field in NJ in 1985 with a friend from high school smoking weed. It was suggested we try to tune in 91.1 FM. I could kind of pick it up in rural Warren County.
I think I first heard of WFMU because Daniel Johnston appeared via phone performing a number of fairly terrifying songs/skits. (The Daniel Johnston Hour from Nick Hill's show, Feb 4th 1990) www.youtube.com...
Now I want to go to Andre Williams' funeral. Hope it's not any time soon.
I believe I read about WFMU in '98 in The Wire. I just started my first real job, and they had the bandwidth to actually listen to the tinny WFMU signal. I would listen when I was the only one left in the office at night. (this was in FL).

A cool Belgian guy from college first turned me on to WFMU
I had several points of tangential exposure to WFMU long before I got to regularly listen. Songs in the Key of Z was pretty much my bible in high school, and I found a bootleg DVD of a couple of the Irritainment specials at Kim's (RIP) on a trip down to NYC, which remains one of the most played discs in my collection.
In 2002 my friend and co-worker had the Hip Transistor playlist open on her monitor. I asked her wtf is the Hip Transistor and why tf is a sports columnist hosting it.
Since the last storm took off a bit of our roof, we haven't found anyone to repair it, and I now have balance defects that make roof-crawling inadvisable, we are _not_ rooting for as big a storm as possible.

What the pallbearers don't know is there's actually a guy hidden inside that twinkie.
The first time I heard WFMU was in 1886. Radio wasn't invented yet BUT the DJs would send you a parcel with the music sheets so you could sing along at home.
I first heard of WFMU around ten years ago at a radio event in London when Julie Shapiro (then of the Third Coast Festival now of Radiotopia) played out some Benjamen Walker stuff and compared FMU to Resonance FM.
i was at my nephews wedding at a posh country club and the bride and bridesmaids all got on the floor ans started twerking. my wife and i were horrified for some reason
I was trying to find "The Hour of Slack" and Sister Kris[?] c.1994C.E. during a typically fraught split trip back to the parents' places. I caught Bronwyn reading the News of the Dead, and as I'd neglected to stuff my ears with wax, I was drawn on to my doom.
Then, a few years later in the used record store through which we met the roommate whose friends got me the start of my coding career-oid thing, I bought a copy of the "Seven Second Delay" CD—I found a lot of it cruel, but hiding the afikomen near the New Jersey Turnpike inspired….
we are relying on your active involvement, not only listening but supporting us if you possibly can this one time of the year when we go on mic and ask :) I just flew here a long way too! Phone us or click on the pledge button.

Two other things about really successful ringtones: 1) you have to own a phone that supports multiple ringtones, and 2) you have to receive incoming calls.
you could convert the audio format, I believe, yes

KEN -- REMEMBER THE NIGHT TO REMEMBER(ALL CAPS): "THE SINKING OF THE BRECKMAN" by a wee mouse..or as might be said, "by us mices..."
Simon, Arnan y morphe' Hopefully back in tome to hear
It should be possible to modify the ringtones to be various computer tones such as the startup / shutdown things, close window, you've got mail, and so on.
Vicky is having a delicious waffle, homemade by Hen downstairs in the WFMU "kitchen."

People,
I just received this urgent telegram.
.
.
Fellow East Banananers,
The Affairs Committee of the East Banana Supreme People's Assembly, the basic mission of which is to promote friendly relations with peace-loving people, bitterly condems you for not pledging any money to the WFMU cause. It is an intolerable insult to the East Banana people, a declaration of war against the Democratic East Banana Republic (DEBR) and a grave threat to free-form radio.
So please pledge NOW!
Ken Jong-un.
Eternal president, great leader, chairman, supreme leader, dear respected of the East Banana Republic.
If East Banana needs your account number, for god's sake give it to them. Who are you? Just a worm! How can you put your own interests ahead of the glory of East Banana??
i am waiting for this storm to start! my company gave me the day off...i should not look a gift horse in the ...! BUT AT LEAST I GET TO LISTEN TO THE GREATEST FUNDRAISER IN DA WORLD!!! Thank you Ken And Vicky!
@Reno D normally I go to www.wfmu.org... put in your amount select One Time and the show you want select no merch go to next step put in your info and on the last step select bill later. That's how I do it
ken from hp - the last two years i pledged during the marathon and then i was getting double billed on my credit card. i'm just gonna go online and order my swag from there and not make an active pledge since i'm a swag for lifer.
It is similar in concept to Bob Ostertag's "Say No More." Ostertag oversaw a quartet improvisation, which he then scored. The same quartet played the scored version of what they'd originally produced spontaneously. I think he then asked them, again, to reproduce without a score the version they performed from the score...or something like that.

C'mon! Everybody knows Nancarrow in the WFMU land!
I'm struggling with trying to imagine what the difference would be between computer generated bits of random nonsense from Ken & Andy versus the usual bits of random nonsense from Ken & Andy.
I'm finally here, a bit late thou. Are you still accepting requests?

What was the name of that project that computer-notated recordings by the like of James Brown, performed them with a live ensemble from the sheet music, and overlayed the original vocals? I need to hear more of Man's World!
