I was trying to figure out for museums if the Louvre is worth the hassle for only 2 days of being in Paris.... Besides the Mona Lisa, what else is there? I'm more into contemporary, modern and outsider art..... even turn of the century stuff like Art Noveau, Deco, etc.

@Meghan My favourite museum in Paris is the Palais Galliera www.palaisgalliera.paris.fr..., which is the city's fashion museum. It's small and they have stunning exhibitions. And nearby is the Palais de Tokio www.palaisdetokyo.com...

The Songkick app is good for tracking bands too, if you feel like seeing a gig. And the NextStopParis app is very good for public transport, and LeFooding is great for food and hotels.

The Louvre *is* worth it. It's big, but really doesn't go much past the 19th century artwise. Also great people watching...

The Louvre is incredible, and probably has at least a little of anything you're looking for, but... if you're only there 2 days and aren't drawn to going there anyway, it can be super imposing. Adrian in London's suggestions look really good, I agree with Listening Out There that the Rodin Museum is worth a stop, and you might want to check out the Pompidou www.centrepompidou.fr... or the Musee D'Orsay www.musee-orsay.fr...

For simple respite in Paris, it's fun to just walk the streets and eat fresh cherries from the market and stop for apple tarts in random patisseries.

Did see good stuff at Pompidou a couple years ago. At Louvre, the most ancient stuff is the most stirring for me. Without long visit , hard to even get started with the marquee holdings of masters, etc. Spent about 8 hrs there 25 years ago... with predictable overload and sense of thin surface scratching.

I'm insufferable at most museums, I read and examine everything. My wife and I spent 2.5 days at the SS museum in Berlin, so we only got one full day at the Pergamon, and maybe saw a quarter of everything. (we saw many more galleries and museums while we were there for 8 days).
