Hey! Stuart Davis just came up in a college-level textbook on art that I'm editing!

Wadada Leo Smith is playing tonight with Deerhoof at Le Poisson Rouge in Manhattan (wish I could get to it, not likely).
Mathew Shipp is playing with Roscoe Mitchell At Carnegie Hall/Zankel Hall Jan 27.

Greetings all! The mouses and the hee-haws are gone for now. We groove onward...

Hmmm. My radar must have picked this up and influenced my radio desires for the week!

we're dancing

If you have a kid dancing in 7/4, you are achieving greatness.

Good afternoon David and all. I wish I could go to that show too (Wadada Leo Smith / Deerhoof)

Hello, Fred. I didn't even see this LPR gig on the calendar! Just stumbled on this recording over the holidays!

Jeff Golick played a great set of Wadada Leo Smith last month

northguineahills:

I missed Wadada Leo Smith in NYC (see date) Phew!, I was still in uni back then.

One of the most mindblowing shows I've seen was Leo Wadada Smith w/ Anthony Braxton. They played as if they once shared the same uterus, totally telpathically brilliant.

david w:

I wander into jazz somewhat tentatively because there are master collectors out there, like Golick, who leave me in the dust(jacket).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm
fred:

These Andrew Cyrille sets are fitting for the drummer stream. (Also, great)
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:49pm
david w:

Thanks, Fred. I thought so too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57pm
fred:

I saw a very nice trio (hurdy-gurdy, bagpipes, guitar) yesterday where the guitar was the percussive instrument (sometimes through actual banging, but usually not)
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:58pm
david w:

I like that combination!

They're called Toad, and they're one of the projects of the La Novia collective, who mix traditional and experimental music: www.la-novia.fr

Another really interesting and cool show today, David. I don't always get to tune in, but I always enjoy it when I do. There's really nothing like it on the radio, or, really, anywhere

david w:

Ruth is blushing. She says our motto should be "annoyingly irresistible"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm
fred:

That sure beats "irresistibly annoying", which was already claimed by Kenny G anyway (I still miss that show)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm
doctorjazz:

Definitely a cool show, really enjoyed, deliciously refreshing (as long as we're looking for catch phrases).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm
Sem:

Much obliged, David and Ruth, for today's show. A window on work I otherwise would not have heard anywhere. Anyway, what Mark R. said above. See you next time.

Thanks Sem. And Mark. And Fred. We can't deny that positive comments help get us up and running, at least in part!

Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Coming up next on the Drummer stream: "Not A Single Thing" Dreamy, strange, scary, mysterious, memory-bending, often beautiful collage today, with surprise listener phone calls, all improvised spontaneously into existence. With a little bit of Joe Frank (r.i.p.), sadly joining my other radio idol, Negativland's Don Joyce.
