	5:45am markr: The later Steely Dan albums were all session musicians, except for Becker and Fagen, and many of those musicians were black. There was a very funky feel to a lot of those records that you could see might appeal to the same audience that might dig, say, Funkadelic. The thing I loved about them (and I didn't get this until later), was they used their very slick production values to get airplay and slip all these VERY subversive lyrics past the censors and into our impressionable young minds. Why, every time a DJ said "Steely Dan" he was unwittingly talking about a dildo in a William Burroughs story.

Saw an interview w/ Ms. Underwood a while back, her talking about the parts Zappa wrote for her. She picked up the mallets and played a few measures, and there mist have been a hundred notes in there, in, of course, more than several time signatures.
