Good evening. If you put a Sensational Band and a Magic Band on the same bill...could ordinary attendees survive it?

On a comment board a few years ago someone asked if there were bands people avoided because the band's name irritated them too much, and I mentioned Death Cab for Cutie. It always sounded like an in-joke that needed explanation, but then another listener informed me that it was a Bonzo Dog Band song. I learn so much from WFMU.

My 19 year old daughter, a punk fan, tells me punk started in the mid 90's, with Green Day
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:10pm

most band names with "big" in them will deter me from exploring.
Avatar 8:12pm

big blood is fabulous. big country was okay. i can't think of any other big bands. pun not intended.
Avatar 8:12pm
BronwynB:

@doctorjazz: i have cousins around that age who are soooo jealous of me for having been born in the 90s, the age of classic rock, like nirvana
Avatar 8:13pm
glenn:

classic rock = oldies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:15pm

glenn -agreed exactly regarding both those. i'm blanking out a bit but i know at least 4 local bands with "big" in their names. ...and big head todd.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:16pm

This sounded so familiar but I couldn't identify it until they sang the name.

"When we looked around, the first thing that caught our attention was an ass. It seemed firm and sturdy just like rock music, the music we like. And we didn’t want just a normal ass, so we named the band Big Ass."

maybe people with mediocre bands in my part of the world are for some reason prone to terrible band names with "big" in them.
Avatar 8:24pm

i don't know that my generation is gonna have much in the way of classic rock, because as a whole, we are not big rock fans. it's almost a bad word among a lot of us

Funny, I'm listening out of my computer; music at usual stream volume, mike break was much louder. Is it different using the phone apps?
Anyway, finished in the office, time to head on home, maybe catch some more later, g'night.

They have good banter, and a good concept. Hopefully it will grow. It's hard to banter when you're exhausted at work at almost 7pm, but it was fun,

Christmas story?
Today, 5:12 PM - my sister out of state inquires by email what I'd sent for Xmas for my 10 year old niece, whose name I'd drawn in the family Kris Kringle system. She didn't know what it might have been among the unmarked items received.
6:02 - I describe the two parcels I sent, and said I was surprised at any mystery...each had a return address and a card enclosed.
6:42 -- I miraculously find the postal receipt, and check tracking online. Both delivered past USPS predicted date, but reported delivered together on porch on Boxing Day morning. I pass this info/memory jogger on to sister.
8:46 -- sister says items never made it to porch at reported date/time, but at about 8 tonight, after her message and my replies, both had appeared between her front doors!
Niece quite happy and eager to assemble 1000 piece puzzle -- she likes 'em -- and tackle the home-made root beer kit.

But...'sup with that timing?
Avatar 9:49pm
