I remember that Ed was involved with the recording of one of the greatest breakbeats used in hip-hop: "It's a New Day" by the Skull Snaps. A quick Google search turned up Ed's bio on Facebook, it turns out it was his first official session, and it lead to him producing Living Colour:

If we can pose questions:
My big question for Ed Stasium would be, does he have to get into a different head space for each different band or musical style, or is it all pretty much the same from where he sits?

Re: the drummer on "Doodle-Li-Boop," is it possible it was the composer, Alan Abel? He was percussionist with Philadelphia Orchestra from 1959, obviously an accomplished musician.

  1:59pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

Dean you may be correct. I suspected Sam Ulano because he did similar recordings, but it would be likely to be the composer if he was a drummer. good call on that
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 2:00pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

I heard "Doodle-Li-Boop" one time before, on a different station. Glad to catch it on WFMU where I can clicky-star that buzzard!

Late! Corporate lunch accomplished.
  2:03pm
Dean:

The drummer plot thickens: a story in Billboard, March 2, 1955, reports a drumathon in a window at Macy's on West 46th St. by Ulano, aiming to drum for 72 hours (smoking cigars the entire time). "The stunt was the brainchild of Alan Abel, head of A-Bell Records, and a would-be legit producer." Not sure, then, if this is the Philly Abel.
