Totally what James just said -- I didn't know the Residents had even been on TV, for instance

I have Marclay's "Shuffle' right next to me, which is a bunch of postcards that of found objects that look like a musical staff that have other markings that look like notes that are suggested as a score.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:37pm
Gary:

NGH! New avatar, I see
Avatar 8:39pm

Ahhh, you played dj Olive, and I missed it! He's my mentor, and old friend! I saw him play w/ Marclay a few times!

Doesn't the Caretaker use one of these loops right here?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:42pm
Gary:

I dunno, James -- what piece?
Avatar 8:44pm
northguineahills:

Every time I hung out w/ Christian, he was straight up nice person (unlike some art stars/musicians I've met.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:45pm
Gary:

He strikes me as being nice and super brilliant -- based solely on the video of him talking about "The Clock" ... which, holy bejeebus, what a project
  8:46pm
Ike:

Yeah, the lounge-y/ballroom-y element sounds like the Caretaker to me too, @LJfW.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:48pm
Gary:

Ah, The Caretaker is indeed one of the folks whose snippets is used in this piece. It's William Basinski, Christian Marclay, Stephan Mathieu, The Caretaker, How To Dress Well
Avatar 8:49pm
northguineahills:

The Clock was a fun exhibit to see. Ah, the stuff I'll miss not being in NYC.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:52pm
Gary:

I've only seen excerpts on YouTube -- would love to try and sit through the whole 24 hours
Avatar 8:54pm

I have the Moving Parts cd, it's fun!

(Otomo Yoshihide is a hero of mine)
Avatar 8:58pm
northguineahills:

I just got offered a job at FB in NYC that pays 3x what I make now. No thanks, I have complete control and freedom w/ my current job and I'm building something. Working for FB would be like working for Mr. Robot's Evil Corp. I'd like to be in NYC and be near my friends and wife, but, I have the perfect job here.
  8:58pm
Ike:

Nice surface noise. Really enjoying.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:58pm
listener james from westwood:

Ohhh, yes, the track field hadn't been populated at the point when I asked. Glad I wasn't completely off the beam!
Avatar 8:58pm
northguineahills:

I use Record w/o a Cover for vinyl noise when djing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:59pm
listener james from westwood:

Good call, ngh. Satisfactiion >>>> money. And going to work for FB at this point is basically like joining SPECTRE or Hydra or some shit. (See also: Techtonic on Mon nights!)

Ike:

Where ya been commuting to, G?
Avatar 9:03pm
northguineahills:

I'm there every monday night, james!

(I used to keep my record w/o a cover in cover)

considering I used to be basically unemployed for 3 years, I feel the same Gary.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:03pm
Gary:

Will start commuting next week, Ike -- to up near the NJ / NY border
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:06pm
Gary:

This record feels like that famous cartoon of R. Crumb's where a landscape goes from bucolic to city over time
Avatar 9:09pm
northguineahills:

oh dang, Gary, that's got to be a hell of a commute for you. Last summer I interviewed for a job at Con Ed in the Bronx, but it wasn't near mass transit, and they wanted you to clock in at 7am. I thought that was long ride! (Jersey would have been easier to get to). (and all of my stuff was already in storage in FL anyways).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11pm
Gary:

Yeah, it's going to take getting used to. But, have a plan! (Writing while commuting)
Avatar 9:18pm

Sounded Sonic Youthy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22pm
listener james from westwood:

My dad commuted from Parkchester in the Bronx to Wall St. for years and I still have no idea how he didn't murder someone, either on the commute or my whiny ass when he got home.
Avatar 9:22pm
northguineahills:

If I took the ConEd job, I'd be waking at 4 (multiple trains, busses, walking).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23pm
Gary:

Daaaamnnn ... yeah, with luck mine'll be 1.5 hours, an hour of it on a single, uncrowded, sitdownable train
Avatar 9:25pm
northguineahills:

I once for 6 months drove 90 mins (80 miles) from Gainesville to downtown Jacksonville, when I was 22 and just started drinking and djing. I was rough a many mornings (and evenings) back then.
Avatar 9:27pm
northguineahills:

(for a job)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30pm
Gary:

That's a long way to drive everyday. I feel like driving commuting takes more of a toll than train commuting ... if you get a seat

Yeah, but a train commute is a passive commute, so you can at least read. I'm lucky now, my commute is 11-15 mins.

Man, I remember my easiest commute ever: Across the street! (In Berkeley, California.)

I love Okkyung Lee. One time at the Stone, I shh'd someone and she told me to be quiet! (we were friendly w/ each other back then).

Mine is 1.5 hrs. (I work near the frigging Manson billboard) but I usually get to sit down and read the whole way, or 80%+ of it.
