And for my 2 cents, I'm quite partial to the current. I've got it on my "Must Aquire" list for my record digging trips!
Avatar 3:09pm
Wild Neil:

I try really hard at these comparisons, so @NotARealDoctor, thank you for self reporting! &Cecile! I guess she has some fancy musical term for having the same...color? timbre? voice as Amy Winehouse?
Avatar 3:10pm
Cecile:

To me Amy seems to sing from the throat more. The notes seem swish around in Paloma's mouth more and she's more sibilant, if that makes any sense.
Avatar 3:10pm
Wild Neil:

Gin Wigmore sounds kinda like AW. A very little.
Avatar 3:10pm

Oh my, I thought that I was going to have to miss SBB this week, but luckily the office Thanksgiving party didn't go too long. Rejoice!
Avatar 3:11pm

Sorry, I knew Paloma wasn't Amy. I've listened to Amy way too much. I just didn't know about theme voting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm
NotARealDoctor:

@Cecile, I see where you're coming from, but I kind of attributed that to the variability of Amy's voice depending on her sobriety.

Do you want to change your theme song again? I like your theme song. Unless it's getting changed to Hair the Dog by Nazareth. Then, hell yeah, change it.
Avatar 3:20pm

@Cecile Yeah, I was thinking change might be good. BUT...there's also the option to keep the same theme. Gonna play the three options later in the show.

Haven't even opened today's communique yet, they tend to arrive in a breathless rush shortly before the show starts. Which is kinda cool: if one has a few minutes to read it while actually listening to the show, it's like the radio equivalent of reading the back of the cereal box while gorging on a big bowl of the yummy goodness inside!

@Cecile: it is so fun. Edie Falco is great, and the contrast between the dull underacting of the guy playing the older brother and the wild overacting of the guy playing the younger brother is endlessly fascinating. And there's a crazy therapist who puts Dr. Landy to shame!

Avatar 4:17pm
BronwynB:

@Cecile: yeah, even the victims in that case were awful. the show is very sympathetic towards the brothers and their defense attorney, which is odd but definitely a bold tack to take, and definitely distinguishes it from american crime story where it was pretty clear they thought OJ did it and marcia clark/chris darden were the heroes (although johnnie cochran is kind of an antihero)

BronwynB:

I loved Liz Phair's "Why Can't I" when I was 10. Then as an adult I fell in love with Exile in Guyville. Then a few years later I found out it was the same person and was like "wtf". And I read the reviews for her pop album in '04 and felt terrible because everyone hated it and said it was her downfall and I loved it...but it was targeted towards little girls, or at least the single was, and apparently it worked. I used to jump up and down on my bed singing it into my hairbrush.

Sophisticated Boom Boom is great but pigeon-holes the time period.
The current theme is groovy 60s but sounds fresh and contemporary at the same time. It's also indicative of the vairety. I say keep this one. I get a little chill of excitement whenever I hear it. Also-it's the most SOPHISTICATED-sounding of all songs, in my opinion.

Aaah, Gal Costa! I grew up in Brazil for a huge chunk of my childhood. This is one of my favorite songs. Check out Caetano's version of it (old and more recent acoustic)

"sah-oo-doh-SEES-moh" is how you pronounce the Gal Costa tune (but it's all good, Portuguese is tricky).
