I can't take credit for the animations. I'm just the re-animator.
Avatar 9:09am
Kurt Gottschalk:

sure you can take credit, groo. it'd be a lie, but...

Speaking of winter, it came early here in FL, it was 45F/6C when I woke up (still will get up to the low 70sF/20sC.)

Good morning Kurt. I haven't been able to listen to your show for a while, and I tune it to Min Xiao-Fen!
Avatar 10:16am
Kurt Gottschalk:

fred! long time! nice to hear from you.
Avatar 10:18am
northguineahills:

Just went through four albums of Makigami Koichi last weekend from a harddrive I copied from a friend years ago. This album wasn't among them.
Avatar 10:20am
Kurt Gottschalk:

he has so much great stuff!
Avatar 10:25am
northguineahills:

The hiphop album David Shea did w/ dj Grazhoppa is really amazing, I believe it was also from '99.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26am
fred:

I just realized I don't think I ever pledged to this show before. I have to check a few things about coming taxes and see if I can fix that (no promises there)
Avatar 10:27am
Kurt Gottschalk:

ngh, i'd forgotten that one.
fred, whatever you can do is appreciated.
Avatar 10:29am
northguineahills:

oh, and David Shea does play the jaw-harp on that album as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35am
fred:

@Kurt: I'm not sure, I'm moving from a yearly wire transfer to swag for life because of recent regulation/bank changes over here in Europe, and I'm still guessing at what the increased fees will look like. Looks like I could do an extra one-time pledge, but I can't afford to get this wrong, so bear with me as I figure it out
Avatar 10:40am
Kurt Gottschalk:

no worries, fred. we appreciate what you do and whatever more you might.
Avatar 10:50am
northguineahills:

I was going to say, I've never heard this Braxton.
Avatar 10:52am

it's a great record. so glad delmark is reissuing these old sackville titles.

Avatar 11:08am

i wasn't either but this record floored me.
Avatar 11:08am
Richard Gruesome:

I think I would miss my exit if I was commuting to this excellent work.
Avatar 11:09am
Kurt Gottschalk:

just keep on drivin', groo!
  11:14am
Doctorjazz:

No problem with the exits, but sitting in the parking lot, have to turn off the show for a bit and get into the office (I'll get it back on the computer there).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18am
fred:

Sorry Kurt, I tried to pledge but couldn't pay. Got rejected with an "insufficient funds" message, though I do have the money. Probably the joys of international payment
Avatar 11:19am
Richard Gruesome:

Hindman is new to me too. This is nice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21am

(Love the alternate home page-this show is particularly a pain to get to otherwise...)

fred, no wux.

dr. j, you can't just switch channels on the new homepage?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24am
doctorjazz:

Birthday anniversary I haven't seen/heard mentioned, October 20, 1890, with one of my favorite tunes...

Avatar 11:24am
northguineahills:

Same w/ me about Hindman.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24am
fred:

It's all my fault, I hit a cap on international payments I didn't know existed. And my local branch closes in 5 minutes, so I can't possibly fix it because I don't have a smartphone
Avatar 11:26am
Kurt Gottschalk:

oh man, dr. j, had i known i would have brought in dave burrell's 'jelly roll joys' record. and/or anthony coleman's morton album. those are my two favorite contemporary players of morton by far.
Avatar 11:28am
Richard Gruesome:

I'm only liking the first movement of the Hindman. Can my like on the playlist reflect that?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am
doctorjazz:

Not sure what you mean by "switch channels"...the home page gives a link to the Main station playlist, and the option to get to the Give the Drummer Some schedule (which you aren't on as of now).

Burrell or Coleman Jelly Roll would be great, next time will be fine (don't think Jelly Roll will complain...)
Avatar 11:32am
Kurt Gottschalk:

i should enter individual movements into the playlist i guess but, yeah, seems unlikely that i'll start doing that.
Avatar 11:32am
Kurt Gottschalk:

but your like specification is noted.
  11:33am
Dean:

I second Dr. J's preference for the old site view. We can see all streams at once, e.g., Chris Watson right now on the Boredcast stream.
Avatar 11:33am
Kurt Gottschalk:

dr. j, if you click on "drummer stream" on the new homepage, you can launch the player from there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am
doctorjazz:

But, you can't get to the Playlist of your show without searching you (I use the email link to open the playlist when I don't go to the old home page)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am
fred:

@doctorjazz: if you click "give the drummer radio", at the right of the play button, you'll get a link to the playlist under "listen now"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45am
doctorjazz:

@fred
that calls for a "duh"...on my part. always saw that the main station playlist is listed, never clicked GTDS "listen now" to see that it changes when you click it (I thought it would just open the pop-up, or another stream). OK, simple, after all. My bad...(still like the old home page)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51am
fred:

@doctorjazz: I took me a while to figure it out. Kenzo's style might not be all that pretty, but stuff just works. Pulling that off isn't easy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52am
doctorjazz:

Great ending set, thanks Keith!
Avatar 11:53am
Kurt Gottschalk:

dr. j, thank mick, too!

Thanks Kurt, soipoib show!

There's definitely a GP connection to another song on the same album, "Wild Horses." Flying Burrito Bros. performed that one, too, before Sticky Fingers.
Avatar 11:56am

It was a happy day when I found this Fahey record.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58am
