Nice to see (read) ya, Sem Chumbo! Glad you're here, Gary!

  12:18pm Marc F:

For ONCE Facebook deigned to let me see a post about an FMU show when it was ACTUALLY airing...

Sounds great, so great to hear you on the waves again!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm Doug Schulkind:

Welcome welcome, coelacanth∅, burke and Marc F!

@Marc
I have been wishing the best for you. My sister narrowly avoided the Soberanes fire in Big Sur last year, but than her house was destroyed by the floods that followed. Horrible stuff.

Mike East! Mike East!
  12:19pm Dean:

Where's your t-shirt, UM?
  12:20pm Marc F:

Thanks Doug, we were very lucky. The 2,800 houses that burned to the ground were only a few blocks to the north of us. We evacuated, but we were lucky.

Your show is sweet solace and delicious normalcy. Much appreciated!

Glad your sis did OK last year too. California makes you PAY for all the beauty...
  12:21pm Dean:

We're 60 miles south of you, @Marc F, and we had a full week of smoky air. I just can't imagine what it's been like for you all.

  12:32pm Dean:

Put on your glasses. Sartorial Catch 22.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm Parq:

Uncle Michael @12:16 - I do shit like that all the time. Remember the character in "Frasier" who would find something missing, believe that it was stolen, go ballistic and then, a second later, find it six inches to the left of where he thought it was? That's me all over.
Avatar 12:41pm burke:

Hints of toxic masculinity in this set!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm Uncle Michael:

Parq, let's just say I was "adrenalized" when I parked those glasses.
Avatar 12:41pm burke:

@Parq Was that the cantankerous dad?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm Parq:

Burke, I think it was the sportscaster -- Bulldog, was that the character's name? Mad Dog, maybe?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm coelacanth∅:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm Funky16Corners:

Ooh! This Sharon Scott is hot! (and expensive...)
  1:06pm Dean:

Hint: There's a Drummer Lane in Ligonier, PA, about sixty miles outside of Pittsburgh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm Doug Schulkind:

Hot and Expensive was my nickname in high school.
  1:08pm Funky16corners:

Oh my!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm Doug Schulkind:

Hey Funky16Cornes, when you're slinging nothing but 45s, when do you find time to pee? I think I need a Deejay's Buddy®.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm Sem Chumbo:

Ha! Nice, nice, nice, D.S..
Avatar 1:12pm burke:

Christmas in October!
Avatar 1:12pm hyde:

it was loaded, it exploded
  1:13pm Dean:

I've heard this lament more than a couple times in past weeks, namely, that playing 45s keeps the DJ on his/her toes. Why is that so? Why is it any different with LPs or CDs, one song at a time? I know that tracks on 45s on average are shorter than on those other formats, but substantially so?
  1:14pm Funky16corners:

@Doug - on the radio or in da clurb? Either way, be fast and efficient.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm Uncle Michael:

I used a Deejay's Buddy® today. No lie. TMI?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm Uncle Michael:

Physical cueing, Dean.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm Doug Schulkind:

Give the Drummer Radio is a full disclosure operation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm coelacanth∅:

-otherwise known as "a jar"?
  1:15pm Funky16corners:

Sandy Wynns aka Edna Wright, sister of Darlene Love!
  1:16pm Dean:

You don't physically cue CDs or LPs? I realize mp3s and digital files allow you to operate differently, but I don't understand the extra burden imposed by 45s, unless it's purely a function of timing, which is plausible.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm Doug Schulkind:

Sorry this record isn't cracklier. I know how much you all love crackles.
  1:17pm Funky16corners:

Timing, cueing and length, I.e. most 2.5 to 3 min long. Not much time to think
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm Uncle Michael:

Hospital room "jug".

Alan Freed didn't have KenzoDB...and comments.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm coelacanth∅:

this one's Juuust right.
  1:18pm Funky16corners:

Plus, you gotta be careful handling 2-300dollar little plastic biscuits
  1:19pm Funky16corners:

Your killing it today, Doug. Wish I’d tuned in earlier but was recording vinyl.
  1:19pm Dean:

I guess I get it. Sorry, I'm slow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm Uncle Michael:

There's got to be a youtube video demonstrating back-cuing records. Then I have to constantly switich sources in my phones, crossfade the records, etc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm Doug Schulkind:

"But I was recording vinyl." A LIKELY story, F16C!
  1:21pm Funky16corners:

I pulled a big fat stack out of the vault today. Mostly future Testify material.
  1:21pm Dean:

And, of course, take a leek, all at once!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm Uncle Michael:

A real radio board, like at the station can actually *start* a turntable with a button. I don't have that luxury.
Avatar 1:21pm hyde:

man, being a DJ sounds rough. i'm glad i just send in money to have some other saps do all the work.
  1:21pm Funky16corners:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm Doug Schulkind:

My bladder appreciates that that Sam & Kitty track was three blessed minutes long.
  1:22pm Dean:

Ha!, @hyde.

We heard Pookie earlier in the show singing with the Spaniels.
  1:46pm Funky16corners:

This is much funkier than her work with Josie and the Pussycats
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm Doug Schulkind:

That track was atypically funky for Ms. Holloway.
Avatar 1:47pm hyde:

wow, she was on Josie and the Pussycats AND she co-wrote You've Made Me So Very Happy
  1:48pm Funky16corners:

You thinking of Brenda?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm Doug Schulkind:

Wrote it with her sis, Brenda.
  1:49pm Funky16corners:

Damn, you’re right, both of them! I never noticed!
  1:49pm Funky16corners:

Oh yeah!
  1:50pm Funky16corners:

I would currently (theoretically) commit murder for a copy of this 45.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm Jeff Golick:

I would not TESTIFY! in that (theoretical) trial.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm Jeff Golick:

Hi.

Someday someone will have to assemble a canonical list of all Ivette’s and place it on a timeline
  2:11pm Funky16corners:

IKETTES
  2:13pm Jeff g.:

This here is phenomenally great walking around music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13pm Doug Schulkind:

"The Ikettes were a trio (sometimes quartet) of female backing vocalists for the Ike & Tina Turner Revue. Despite their origins, the Ikettes became successful artists in their own right, with hits in the early- and mid-1960s. Mostly unheralded, they were arguably one of the ten top R&B female groups of all time.

The group started as the Artettes, the backing group of Art Lassiter. The first official incarnation of The Ikettes was composed of Robbie Montgomery, Venetta Fields, and Jessie Smith; Ike never paid them much, which caused their lineup to change frequently, and they never received royalties.[citation needed] The original trio of Ikettes later morphed into THE MIRETTES."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm Doug Schulkind:

Howdy Jeff G! I spoke about you on the air earlier, but I think I forgot to greet you here. GREETS!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm Funky16Corners:

There's a bunch of others too, including Claudia Lennear and (for a short time) Bonnie Bramlett. Same kind of deal with various and sundry Raelettes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18pm Doug Schulkind:

There should have been a vocal group called the Ette-ettes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19pm Funky16Corners:

It'd be huge, like the Mormon Tabernacle Choir!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19pm Funky16Corners:

All the Ikettes, Raelettes, Duettes, Primettes
  2:19pm Jeff g.:

I'm sorry I'm missed that, Doug. I presume you gave out my home address as your own, to throw F16 off?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20pm Funky16Corners:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25pm Doug Schulkind:

Can of roux? No, kangaroo.
  2:27pm Jeff g.:

I've noted this before, but: to become a Raelette, one had to "let Ray," apparently.

I have no idea if this is true, I just like the wordplay.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28pm Funky16Corners:

I think that coinage came from within the ranks of the Raelettes, so probably true
  2:28pm Jeff g.:

@UM are you checking for rouxty poots?

It would be interesting to have a show that was a soul-tastic tribute to the criminal justice system.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm Funky16Corners:

The horn section is just like 'I Spy (for the FBI)'
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41pm Doug Schulkind:

@burke
I would play The Escorts! It was a vocal that comprised inmates at Rahway State prison.
  2:41pm Jeff g.:

And all this time I've been spinning JAPO.
Avatar 2:41pm ndbob:

heya Doug - just a little late here:) - and hello everyone
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42pm Doug Schulkind:

Yay! It's ndbob!
Avatar 2:43pm burke:

@Doug I just typed that into the search box and it has consumer reviews of escorts in Rahway.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44pm Funky16Corners:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm Doug Schulkind:

Avatar 2:45pm Monica:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm Funky16Corners:

Re: Sam & Kitty -- my, that Sam really got around, eh? Sam & Bill, Sam & Dave, had no idea Sam also was with Kitty. I wonder who else.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50pm Doug Schulkind:

Let us walk hand-in-hand up (down) that alley, Mr. Corners.

Going out with the HITS in this final set!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:51pm Funky16Corners:

Was there ever an Isley's box set, or too many different labels? What an amazing band.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm Uncle Michael:

There is a GREAT box set.
Avatar 2:52pm ndbob:

wb UM
Avatar 2:53pm hyde:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53pm Funky16Corners:

UM - Does it cover the whole career?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53pm Uncle Michael:

I think it's pretty exhaustive, but I haven't interrogated it.
Avatar 2:53pm hyde:

it's the RCA Victor and T-Neck Album Masters
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm Doug Schulkind:

My headphones just blew. I'm proud it happened during this show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm Funky16Corners:

No Tamla/Motown?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:55pm Doug Schulkind:

For a moment there I thought they sang, "I can't help it, I'm balding."
  2:56pm Doctorjazz:
