Favoriting Hinky Dinky Time with Uncle Michael: Playlist from September 15, 2017 Favoriting

Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Goyim in the AM:

I saw Husker on the Flip Your Wig tour at the 930 club. It was about as mind-blowing as you'd need it to be. This is a big rock death for me, and I am now hell-bent on ending the hostilities among my old band so our Numero reissue can happen before one of us dies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35am
Parq:

Annie, saw that movie on the plane on my long-awaited (and, to date, only) trip to Paris.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35am

The only part I didn't like was him making a chump of Jelly Roll Morton.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35am

The big music death for me was Walter Becker last week. Such a loss to the arena of classic rock. I never got to see Steely Dan in concert, but I sure love listening to their records.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39am
Stevel:

FYI, Husker Du live in 1981 at 7th St. Entry. This, I believe, was a Twin Tone records showcase that the label taped for posterity. Great representations of the Huskers and the Replacements.

  9:44am
dan:

Grant Hill reminds me of the Graham Parker. With a hint of the late Warren Zevon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44am
Parq:

Saw Du in NYC during the Flip tour. Sorry to be a sorehead, but not my favorite show. First, it took them 90 minutes after the end of the supporting act's set to get on stage. ("Like Heinz catsup!" Mould cracked. Yeah, I said. Hah fucking hah.) Then, most of the set consisted of extended feedback jams. My best to you if you eat that stuff up, but I found it so grating that I almost left twice. Literally, two times I was in the doorway when they shifted mood and slammed into one of their best songs, bringing me right back. When they cut the crap and played songs, no one could touch them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46am
Stevel:

Even as a long-time Husker Du listener, its amazing to be reminded of what a great singer Grant Hart was.
  9:46am

Sorry Grant Hart
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48am

I knew nothing about Hart's solo career until yesterday. Really appreciate your playing this, UM.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49am
Uncle Michael:

My pleasure, Parq.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52am
Goyim in the AM:

Parq: feedback jams were an essential part of us proto-emo kids DNA, and we ate it up. That 930 gig I saw has a reputation as a particularly good one -- sorry if you saw a bad night, 'cause I know Dü had lots of those.
  9:53am
Alex In Illinois:

I like that he told the yacking people to shut up. I've noticed that in the last 5 or 10 years people have been talking at concerts. I go to only ones at small venues. When did talking during the songs at small venue gigs become okay?
  9:56am
dan:

I've heard concert bootlegs where people talked during the performance. Why bother going to shows if you're not gonna pay attention to the music.
