Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

I wasn't aware that she had commented critically about social media, @melinda, but maybe she has appropriated, rather than embraced, it? I saw a CS show at LA's MOCA many years ago. Most impressive was a monumental photograph of what looked like gallons of vomit. At closer inspection one could see that it was just a bunch of stuff.

Dean the part about criticizing social media photo sharing I got from the Times article you linked, they quoted her from an interview. I wasn't trying to suggest hypocrisy on her part, more that the pull of social media can be hard to resist. Whether you see it as an embrace or appropriation, it's clear that she's using the platform in an atypical way compared to the average Instagrammer. But it also sounds like you kinda have to be on Instagram now if you're an artist. I like her sense of humor/horror, too. Especially the hospital selfie w/caption: On the mend!
