I forgot about the opening lines of this song. Trying to imagine Joni Mitchell urinating in a parking lot!

Hi all! Loads of critters on deck for you tonight. Happy to hear your suggestions for more -- if I don't get to them tonight, I might another week soon,
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:09pm
Dan Bodah:

I'm looking specifically for music with human voices imitating animals or insects or fish or birds or water bears or whatnot

Good show. And for those who like comedy, Trump just tweeted this in the last hour, “A great day at the White House!”

I was thinking of medieval and Renaissance imitations, e.g., Janequin, mentioned in the article.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27pm
chris:

true fact, chickens are already in the whitehouse. today's tweet is the proof of the improvement over the trial run which resulted in 'covfefe' being sent out

I’ve seen chickens play tic-tac-toe. They are ready to make hard decisions.

"What does the Fox say" is pretty great satire of current pop song writing. It emulates the form perfectly while subverting it with absurd subject matter. I.e. you can have a "hit" about nothing at all if you paint by these numbers.
  7:39pm
JakeGould:

Whatever the fox says is… I’m tired… So tired… My soul… Tired… So… Tired…
Avatar 7:40pm
Jeff:

I was totally stoked to hear "What Does the Fox Say?" on WFMU. It's pleasingly crazed, and makes me smile.

I remember hearing it back when it was A Thing, although unsurprisingly the way I found out about it was that it was such a sensation in whatever world it existed in that parodies started being created which in turn leaked into my world...
  7:40pm
JakeGould:

@Jeff: So did Weird Al do a parody that was like, “What does Fox news say?”
Avatar 7:41pm
Jeff:

@Jake: I hope not.

P.S. I hate it when my brain drops a piece of vocabulary. Obviously "parody" is more accurate than "satire of form". Sheesh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:49pm
dale:

fun show! hello shirly - this is squirelly. 10-4!
  7:50pm
JakeGould:

Parody means nothing in the age of Trump. Could Aaron Sorkin’s overwrought mind have come up with DA MOOCH?
Avatar 7:51pm
Jeff:

@mcginniwa: I have blank spots in sentences where I know there's an exactly right word which isn't immediately coming to me all the time. Sometimes I google for synonyms to an almost-right word. In fact, I did it just then to get parody.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:51pm
mcginniwa:

Speaking of DA MOOCH, my nomination for Weird Al song is "What does DA MOOCH say?"
Avatar 7:52pm
Richard S:

DA MOOCH says "I'm outta here!"

Sorkin's Mooch would be completely unlike the real one - using words which went together much better and came in long fast strings in one take.
Avatar 7:54pm
Richard S:

More like Joe "Goodfellas" Pesci
  7:54pm
JakeGould:

@Jeff: And it would all be boring, tedious and yet go on for 6 more episodes than needed.
  7:55pm
JakeGould:

Look folks, let’s ease off of this guy… HE’S ONLY HUMAN!!!!
Avatar 7:57pm
Jeff:

@JakeGould: them's fighting words. If you don't recognize and laud Sorkin's absolute mastery of the the art of writing dialogue, I will toss you out a window after poking you in one or more eyes.
  7:58pm
JakeGould:

Poke as many eyes as you wish… As long as they are not mine, I could care less!
  8:00pm
JakeGould:

Aaron Sorkin, Joss Whedon and J.J. Abrams stuck in an elevator. Now that would be something!
