Rhetorical question; is it too early in the work day to slap a cold 24 in my new WFMU tall-boy Koozie?...

If you have 7-11 walk on over to the store with a bottle of Bacardi, splash a few fingers in the bottom of the cup, the fill the rest with Cola Slurpee. Chill and enjoy the walk back. Note Tuesday is free Slurpee day.

Obsessive “Scarface” fans are like nutty “Blues Brothers” and “Animal House” fans… Those movies are good, but the fanbase can be annoying.

PEACE all. I am thinking of paying my 13 year old 12 bucks an hour to crush japanese beetles off plants...is that a fair wage? He has some learning disabilities but is fairly smart...and its tedious work. I would give him work gloves too...thoughts?
  10:31am
Eric:

@Wild Neil: That's more than I'd pay my 12yo, but it depends. Is this an hour with houseplants, or several days out in the fields?
Avatar 10:32am
Wild Neil:

@Eric-its just a couple hours in the evening with garden plants not house plants....I want him to appreciate having a good employer and I want him to be very very very meticulous.
Avatar 10:32am
UNNAMED_PLAYER:

@Wild Neil: Get a hand held bug zapper for $4.99
Avatar 10:33am

I suggest paying by the bug
Avatar 10:35am
Chris from DC:

Liking this new Mark McGuire a lot.
Avatar 10:38am
Wild Neil:

@Itzall and unnamed-BRILLIANT! By the bug!!! How much per bug??! 25 cents?
Avatar 10:46am
Itzall Ablurr:

Wild Neil, that sounds pretty reasonable, assuming you have a shit-ton that need to be removed. Or you could make it a challenge to the youngster's logic and reasoning skills by letting HIM decide if it's "by the bug" or hourly, the FIRST time. Then he could decide which way to proceed if there are "follow-up" days. I'm guessing he would decide to go with the more profitable (to him) pay rate.

grace gold way:

urgggh missed this song
Avatar 11:36am
Wild Neil:

My main point is: how to motivate him to do a great QUALITY job that gets ALL the buggers before they reproduce....There might be ten bugs per plant at this point and maybe thirty or forty plants to check. A typical backyard with a some ornamental trees and a 4 foot by 4 foot raised bed tomato and pepper garden...
  11:39am
Don S:

this show is a keeper! and YES, ALWAYS YES to Tina Turner's Whole Lotta Love.
Avatar 11:41am
Itzall Ablurr:

I'd go with the 25¢ a head plan with a "bonus" of, say $5 if you inspect the plants and are satisfied with his work.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44am
Passaic River Blues:

Crate digger's delight!
Avatar 11:46am
Wild Neil:

@Itzall-maybe, but with the hourly rate its easier to predict how much i need to pay....10 bugs per plant times 40 plants is 400 bugs that $100! I think the hourly rates sounds like more money to a twelve year old and he is more likely to go slow and careful....
  11:55am
KenW:

Wire, as fresh as the day it was made!!!!!!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55am
listener Rey:

There are a lot of different songs titled "Gloria", aren't there? I'm partial to the Cadillacs version myself
Avatar 11:57am
Itzall Ablurr:

Wild Neil, whatever you decide, good luck with the bugs AND helping your son learn about attention to detail. Cheers!
