Here's an abandoned psychiatric center near me. Haven't explored it. Its days may be numbered. I think there are plans to develop the acreage for houses. www.untappedcities.com...

@Marc--I totally hear you. I grew up in the south and that stuff is still very alive and well down there--my mom is gay and I know she's been threatened...it's still a very real concern in a lot of places.

There was a orphanage near the Catholic high school I attended and the stories about torture in the basement (told to me by one of the orphans who attended the school) haunted me for years.
