hey there. just gonna fly back to finland from latvia where i actually encountered a man who said good radiostation to me. i had wfmu shirt on.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:01am doctorjazz:

I was up in the Berkshires last week, Mass MoCA music festival, I had my shirt and saw quite a few WFMU shirts there, got lots of feedback from other FMU fans. Latvia is wild, though...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:02am Doug Schulkind:

Hey doc, ho mauri!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:04am Doug Schulkind:

I was wearing an FMU shirt at the grocery store the other day and a cashier said, "Nice shirt!" I asked if he knew FMU and he said, "No, I just like your shirt."

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45am Webhamster Henry:

Hi Doug, been listening, not typing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46am Doug Schulkind:

@Uncle Michael
The mouthpiece story doesn't go into deep depth. The real story is that Trane had horrible dental problems that made it excruciating to play. He tried to have his mouthpiece adjusted to relieve the pain, and the mouthpiece was ruined.

I have always thought of Trane's record with Johnny Hartman and his recordings with Duke Ellington as his avant garde period.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:46am JtotheK:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48am Uncle Michael:

That makes more sense, Doug. How was the mouthpiece problem solved?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50am Doug Schulkind:

I'm pretty sure the story is that Coltrane just learned to live with the pain and played on with a substandard mouthpiece.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58am Goyim in the AM:

The story is that Trane was embarrassed by the damage heroin had done to his teeth and got a bridge, which interfered with his embouchure -- he got his mouthpiece messed up adjusting for that.
