My husband and I (who were just a hair too late to experience the 50s) always thought actual 50s music was funnier, sexier and told better stories than Grease did. I heard there was a musical of Leiber and Stoller songs, I bet that was hilarious.
Avatar 4:01pm
Itzall Ablurr:

I always thought it was ridiculous that the local TV stations chose to "bleep" out when she sings "VaFangul, I'm Sandra Dee", as if anyone in the south would have a clue what that even means.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm
listener james from westwood:

Sheila, if brief, Bryce-like back-announcing is where your head's at, rock on!
Avatar 4:02pm
Itzall Ablurr:

@Cecile, you are SO right about "actual" 50s music- it was vastly superior. Gotta' remember, this was the "70s version of the 50s" as opposed to the 60s, 80s, or 90s versions. Golden era.
Avatar 4:02pm

My player is also givin' with a lot of the rapid garbley glottal tic/seizure noises...clenchy tech burps and jerks along with the normal music.

Jim Peterik from the Ides of March had gone to my high school in the 70s or whatever so one day in 1999 he came and did a performance for us. Due to crowd demand, he played "Eye of the Tiger" for a second time in like 25 minutes.

This will be my first year going to the Seoul Record Fair. Looks like they will have a bunch of labels there and some limited ed. releases, plus music performances. Trying to snag a limited ed. copy of the 언니네 이발관 (Sister's Haircut) album. It's like 90s indie rock, but in Korean.

Early Morning in Seoul:

@Passaic River Blues, It's possible they may have that there. Not sure of how much used stuff they will have there. I do know a bunch of places in Seoul to do digging to find that stuff, but some albums are super pricey. Like a Kim Jung Mi album could easily go for $200+! From my limited knowledge, there was tons of censorship in the 70s Korea music scene so lot of records were destroyed, which makes those that survived that much rarer/expensive.

Another great show today! About feeling low, remember, one could spend their whole life diving into the well of suffering in this world and never reach the bottom. Yet one can spend a lifetime rising into the boundless joys that exist in the world and never discover all of it. It's up to us where we focus our energy!
