That perches in the soul -
And sings the tune without the words -
And never stops - at all -
And sweetest - in the Gale - is heard -
And sore must be the storm -
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm -
Feathers in the Soul I’ve heard it in the chillest land -
And on the strangest Sea -
Yet - never - in Extremity,
It asked a crumb - of me.

My door bell rings and this just stunning girl is at the door - I mean just breathtaking. And she was sorta wearing a dark purple dress that had this newagey feel - thing like mage-y and she goes into this pitch her group or Bible study or what have you. But what I also noticed was the dude at the bottom of the stairs on the sidewalk with a shirt and tie (think conventional evangelist looking guy) and - not that these sorts of things appeal to me - the vibe was just all kinds of not right. But I could see where someone less willful (or alternately more trusting) than me would be swept up in a heartbeat and go with her to whereever they wanted me to go.

It’s like someone I know who is a therapist said about Michael Jackson: The guy might have never sexually abused a child, but his breach of social boundaries creeped the kids out and that is bad enough most of the time. Respect of boundaries and respect of individuals is the key to non-dysfunction.

Anyway, I can see how cults might develop out of a religion I'm involved in, because the people who do a lot of work as leaders want recognition and control as leaders. Hard to blame them. As a result, however, the circles become clannish and "political", in the sense that it's hard to be friendly to some without dissing others.
