Let's see how much shed I can build before the show starts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49am Doug Schulkind:

I'll try to spin some excellent shedbuilding records.

That'll be enough of your cutting remarks, glenn.

Today's show will be constructed on the fly. If you would like to hear anything special, let me know!
Avatar 11:37am glenn:

hmmmmmmm. i'm digging omar souleyman a lot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38am Doug Schulkind:

Did you hear that track Monica played on her fill in for Sheila B yesterday? Wow wow wow was that great. Went searching for it, but haven't come up with it yet.
Avatar 11:39am glenn:

ya bnayya. it's on youtube.
Avatar 11:40am glenn:

or - petunia and the vipers. also on youtube.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40am Doug Schulkind:

I saw. I may just have to play it live off YT. That track blew me away.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48am Gary:

Howdy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49am Gary:

I wanna hear something with ridiculous (in whatever sense of the word you like) vocals!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51am Doug Schulkind:

Howdy, Gary!

Mourning gluten.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04pm Doug Schulkind:

Coming right up, Dave in Vermont!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm Dave in Vermont:

On my mind lately that I wouldn't mind to hear:
Ornette, Oliveros, Joey Agresta/Joey Pizza Slice, Dire Straits (anything from Brothers In Arms [except $4nuthin]), Alvin Lucier, Betty Davis
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm fred:

Hello Doug. I second Gary's motion. Or Yoko Ono. Both would be great
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:07pm Brian in UK:

Quick break on the shed making. SECOND the Omar Souleyman. His keyboard player makes it work. Had a solo record out recently.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm Doug Schulkind:

Yoko for sure! Hello fred!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm Dave in Vermont:

ohh, and some Bounce from NOLA- I'll stop being greedy now
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm Sem Chumbo:

Hiya, Doug, and all. What a double surprise. Thanks for steppin' in. Like BiUK, I am down with that suggestion.
A little Beefheart would be good, always get a taste from BillMac.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm David D:

Hey Doug! Giving the drummer some more this week!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm Doug Schulkind:

Hey hey, David D! You see, I am a radio junkie, just like you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm Doug Schulkind:

I could quit anytime (cough), but who would want to?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm David D:

And guten Morgen to you too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm David D:

No some habits are not meant to be quit.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:10pm Brian in UK:

It's easy to quit. Done it dozens of times.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm Doug Schulkind:

Some ridiculous vocals for Gary!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm fred:

@Doug & @David D.: Playing Mind Train is a habit nobody should ever quit
Avatar 12:13pm Jeff:

Hello filling-in Doug!

Hey, you know what I always enjoy hearing - jazz which was either part of the New York scene in the late '50s through the '60s, or (and this can be interesting) which whatever its provenance *sounds* like it was made in New York in the late '50s through the '60s.

But, you know, in a selection curated by someone who knows more than I do.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi, Doug and folks. Got any Egyptian music or music from North Africa today?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm Doug Schulkind:

@fred
Mind Train is queued up, Sir!
Avatar 12:14pm Jeff:

Gluten morgen! Now I want a bagel.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:14pm Troy Wharf:

When are the ridiculous vocals coming, Doug?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm Doug Schulkind:

Hi Ken From Hyde Park! North Africa next!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm Doug Schulkind:

@Troy Wharf
I considered that Homer & Jethro to be ridiculous vocals. Silly me!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm David D:

Almost gluten Abend here, now. And we do actually have a decent bagel shop in town, believe it or not.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:15pm Troy Wharf:

Think you are carrying the spirit of Bill Mac.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm Sem Chumbo:

Yes, KfHP on my wavelength. How about some Umm Kulthūm?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:16pm doctorjazz:

HI Doug and Dougskateers! Fill in for the fill in. Take you out on the phone app, time for the dog walk.
I'd request Willem Breuker and the Kollektief if possible, haven't heard him in a bit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm Doug Schulkind:

Umm or Oum, spelled either way, I love to play! Thanks Sem Chumbo!

Breuker yes yes yes, doctorjazz!
  12:17pm P-90:

Hello, Fill-In Doug!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm Doug Schulkind:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm Doug Schulkind:

And hello up there, Mr Jeff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm Doug Schulkind:

I will get you a bagel, sort of, Jeff.
Avatar 12:20pm Jeff:

If it's nice and fresh, don't toast it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm Dave in Vermont:

There's some compilation called OM that I used to play tracks from a lot that's got Steve Reich swinging a microphone back and forth in front of an amp.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm Doug Schulkind:

Monica played this Omar Souleyman on her fill-in show for Sheila B over on the FMU mothership yesterday. It's been pounding in my head ever since. In a GOOD way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm David D:

Maybe some driving music? I'm going to try to see if I can get the stream to work here in a car...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm David D:

Omar Souleyman is always a good way!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm Dave in Vermont:

Hell yeah, good call Glenn and Doug.
  12:23pm P-90:

Omar's a class act
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm Doug Schulkind:

Nicked this from YouTube. Thankfully, no ads for erectile dysfunction preceding it.
Avatar 12:24pm glenn:

this be some bangin' shit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm fred:

Omar just rules
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm Stanley:

Hi Doug,
This Omar Souleyman is great.
(I believe the ads on YouTube are based on tracking the viewers lifestyle etc.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm fred:

@Dave in Vermont: That's Pendulum Music. I saw it performed a few times, it's mesmerizing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm Doug Schulkind:

Good call, Stanley. The algorithms know me well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm Doug Schulkind:

Bagels for everyone! Er, Bagelmanns I mean!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm Stanley:

Go Al and the Rithms
Avatar 12:28pm glenn:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm Gary:

Omar's playing here on Thursday
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm fred:

Oum!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm Doug Schulkind:

Oum is like ten thousand Lady Gagas. She is Lady Gagagagagagagagagagagagagagagagagagagagagagagagagagagagagagagagagagagagagagagagagagagagagagagagagagagagagagagagagagagaga (you get the idea)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm Sem Chumbo:

Fadista Amália Rodrigues would not go amiss here.
  12:37pm Dean:

Had to go shopping for first half hour of show. En route the local college station played Yes's "Heart of the Sunrise," which is what I would have requested this morning. No need to play it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm fred:

I grew up with her voice, and her death and funeral are some of my earliest memories. Which is part of why I have no second thoughts about voting for an investment banker tomorrow. Eew, though
  12:41pm mike cooper:

On my way to Palermo with you in my headphones as usual - my mobile jukebox
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm fred:

Yeah!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm Doug Schulkind:

Ever lovely to see you, mike cooper!
Avatar 12:44pm glenn:

oooh. i second amalia. mi casa su portugesa?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm Stanley:

I'll go for that. Planning our trip to Lisbon, just this afternoon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm Doug Schulkind:

@Sem Chumbo
I have Amália only on vinyl which in the basement. A bit too inaccessible for me just now. I will find some other fado...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Sem Chumbo:

Had a lovely three weeks there, Stanley...

Doug: Okey Dokey.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm fred:

I remember that the old site had a random quote going "Where Grudges Are Still Harbored Against John Lennon For Breaking Up Fluxus", or something like that. I always loved seeing it because I like Yoko better than the Beatles, in no small part because of this track
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm Stanley:

@Sem Chumbo - wow, nice!
Mrs Stanley and I are over for a short break in June. Any recomendations where to hear fado music (avoiding the trappa del touristas)?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm Doug Schulkind:

OH WAIT, I do have one Amália mp3 I just uncovered. Book it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm Doug Schulkind:

Greetings, Dean!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm Doug Schulkind:

The only way to improve Mind Train would be to triple the length.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm Doug Schulkind:

Speaking of requests, I'm making pizza tonight. What should I make?
Avatar 12:55pm Jeff:

Pizza.
Avatar 12:55pm glenn:

basic margherita never fails.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:55pm doctorjazz:

This Yoko is cool.. I came of age when "Yoko broke up the Beatles ",don't think I ever got past that and paid attention to her.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:55pm Troy Wharf:

Stanley, there is a Fado museum where Megan bought me a great comp.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm Sem Chumbo:

@ Stanley: can't help w/ fadop but this might be useful: theportugalnews.com
Travelled Clockwise from Oporto w/ no itinerary. Too much fun. Sintra if you can!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm Doug Schulkind:

@Jeff
I made that broccoli rabe lasagna again the other night. That is beyond comfort food.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm fred:

@Doug: It's one of the crowning achievements of humanity as it is. They should have put that on that Voyager record. Would have filtered who might want to contact us
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm Doug Schulkind:

@glenn
A good margherita is perfection.
Avatar 12:58pm glenn:

i'm not sure if fred means yoko, or the lasagna.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Bless the genius of Yoko Ono!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm Doug Schulkind:

@fred
Just for that, I will play Blind Willie Johnson...
Avatar 12:59pm glenn:

i mostly hated lasagna, until i discovered no boil noodles.
Avatar 12:59pm Jeff:

Doug's giving the drummer some!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm fred:

@glenn: putting lasagna on a space probe wouldn't have been practical, but I like the idea
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm Doug Schulkind:

"Driving" music next, for David D.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm Doug Schulkind:

Nobody mention Han Bennink's drumset made of cheese. I'm hungry and haven't had lunch.

D'oh!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm Stanley:

Either straight and simple - tomato base, mozerella, a few olives.
Otherwise, Pizza Diablo - chilli, anchovy, black olive

Avatar 1:01pm Jeff:

This is pretty driving.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm Doug Schulkind:

Olives! Thanks for reminding me. My daughter requested olives when I made pizza last week. Olives!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm Doug Schulkind:

Nobody mention olives because I'm hungry and haven't had lunch yet.

D'oh!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:02pm Troy Wharf:

I really enjoyed and found the early Fado an eyeopener a bit like Rembitika
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm fred:

@Doug: re: Blind Willie Johnson. Please do
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm Doug Schulkind:

OK, today's program is making me feel like I should never plan my radio shows. I love being surprised right along with you.

@fred
I'm on it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm Stanley:

Thanks Troy.
Wonderful, it's just round the corner from our digs.
Sem - I'll read that later. thanks.
  1:06pm Dean:

Olive means never having to say you're sorry.
  1:06pm Dean:

Sorry.

Little Old Lady, John Coltrane. Opening track off Coltrane Jazz, please. Nothing special just warms my cockles.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm fred:

Han Bennink is such a great drummer, and a great person from what I heard and witnessed
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm Doug Schulkind:

Some driving music now.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:09pm Troy Wharf:

Should jazz ever be recorded or only ever heard live?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm Doug Schulkind:

Recorded works fine with my Troy W!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm fred:

@Troy Wharf: it should be recorded, if only to get people to go hear it live and keep the music (and musicians) alive
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm Doug Schulkind:

Olive you madly, Dean.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:11pm Troy Wharf:

Stanley, you can buy this comp in the museum.

Gotta say tchau, friends. Enjoy the rest of the show.
Avatar 1:18pm glenn:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm Doug Schulkind:

I'm going to follow up this Blind Willie Johnson with a related number from Yusef Lateef.
Avatar 1:22pm glenn:

i'm betting on irish war cry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm fred:

What about some Washington Phillips at some point?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:23pm doctorjazz:

Ahh, Blind Willie

(have to go back and check out some tracks-Actually have that Yes track on my PC, Heart of the Sunrise, Another one of those High School prejudices (you were Prog rock or a Dead Head in my school, wound up in the latter).
Gotta go lunch with the family, check in again later (what other station/show would have the Memphis Jug Band, Homer and Jethro, Willem Breuker and the Bagelmann sisters on the playlist-Go Drummers!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23pm Doug Schulkind:

@fred
I like the way you think. I was born in Washington and now I live on Phillips Avenue. You're on!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:27pm doctorjazz:

I'm in a European mood, how about Django? Trovesi?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm Doug Schulkind:

I have some Dean-Trovesi Double Quartet. Will that do, doc?
Avatar 1:29pm northguineahills:

You should have had someone fill-in for you at noon....
  1:29pm melinda:

Hi folks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm Doug Schulkind:

Hey hey hey, northguineahills and melinda!!

I'm taking suggestions/requests. What would you like to hear?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:32pm Troy Wharf:

Souaressi by Sory Kandia Kouyaté, or Uptown Babies by Max Romeo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm fred:

Another D2D suggestion: Ola Belle Reed
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm Doug Schulkind:

Yusef Lateef is my all-time music hero/guru/rabbi. When he died, I broadcast five consecutive memorial tribute programs.
  1:33pm Dean:

I don't recall a strict musical divide in high school, but that might be because my buddies before high school all had older siblings who listened to the Dead, Joe Cocker, Derek & the Dominoes, Allman Bros., Steppenwolf, Led Zeppelin, Procol Harum, etc. I first heard Yes when I spied the 8-track of Close to the Edge in the back of a neighbor's VW, c.1973. Asked to borrow it, played it, shared it with friends. A formative experience for us.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm Doug Schulkind:

@Troy W
I have that Coltrane up next...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm Doug Schulkind:

I adore Ola Belle Reed. It will be my pleasure.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:36pm Troy Wharf:

Thanks.

@Dean have you heard The Wondermints song 'In and Around Greg Lake'?
  1:37pm Dean:

@Troy: Oh, yeah! Love it. Hilarious pun.
Avatar 1:37pm glenn:

May she recover fully.
  1:40pm melinda:

I'm enjoying the Lateef.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm Dave in Vermont:

I had a panicky moment...when did I change over to a commercial station....whew
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm Doug Schulkind:

I'll play that Coltrane once I get past the fuckin advert on the YouTube vid...
  1:41pm Dean:

Can't forget that The Germs quote "Roundabout" at the intro to "No God."
Avatar 1:41pm northguineahills:

I thought one of my tabs started to autoplay, I was confused for a bit.
Avatar 1:42pm northguineahills:

(Yes, in all of my browsers, I usually have up to 50 tabs open).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm fred:

I must admit the "why not do it yourself" line was appropriate leading to Washington Phillips
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm Doug Schulkind:

Shit, northguineahills, you took 50 tabs?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm Sem Chumbo:

haha, Doug.
Avatar 1:44pm northguineahills:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm fred:

Mayuko! Doug needs help deciding what to play, you should suggest something
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm Ken From Hyde Park:

This has really been a blast with all the requests coming in on the fly. Do or DIY, indeed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm Doug Schulkind:

Playlist and archive for Monica fantastic show yesterday: wfmu.org...
  1:56pm slawooy:

How about going back to Copenhagen 1974 for some Sonny Rollins and Rufus Harley 'First Move'?
Avatar 1:56pm Mayuko:

I've been putting myself under intensive Brazilian music education recently, so something from Brazil perhaps? Specifically, been listening Samba mostly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Also cool: the go-go dancer (I guess?) in the upper left of the image.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm Doug Schulkind:

@slawooy
Let me see what I got!

@Mayuko
You bet!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm Dave in Vermont:

@Ken, that's the 'canary' making sure the smoke isn't toxic. If s/he collapses everyone else will run away.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm Doug Schulkind:

@Ken From Hyde Park

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01pm melinda:

I 2nd the samba request. More banjo might be nice, too.
Avatar 2:02pm Monica:

maybe some Yokahama Ramblers??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03pm Doug Schulkind:

Did someone mention Loretta Lynn?
Avatar 2:03pm glenn:

banjo samba!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03pm Doug Schulkind:

I have plenty of Ramblers, Mo, but none from Yokahama!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05pm Dave in Vermont:

Sorry, Loretta. Being fertile is a pre-existing condition.
Avatar 2:06pm glenn:

and in loretta's case, that pre existing condition came early and often.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07pm Doug Schulkind:

No banjo samba, glenn, but I do have Brazilian country & western. Up next.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm Doug Schulkind:

How's about some Hackberry Ramblers, Monica?
  2:10pm Dean:

Brazilian Alpine c&w
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm Doug Schulkind:

Sounds like a Ben & Jerry's flavor, Dean.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm Doug Schulkind:

@slawooy
Rufus H. next...
Avatar 2:13pm Monica:

these ramblers will do just fine, doug! by the way, the drummer stream got me through a teeth cleaning this week. had the headphones on throughout and it was hugely calming.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13pm fred:

Ice cream reference! Doug, you sure know how to fill in for Mayuko
Avatar 2:14pm Mayuko:

Haha!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm Doug Schulkind:

This is a fill in show, Monica, not a filling show.
Avatar 2:16pm Monica:

hahaha!
  2:16pm Dean:

I enjoy the sound of my teeth cleanings, a mash-up of Polwechsel and Tod Dockstader's Aerial.
Avatar 2:18pm glenn:

mmmm. grilled cheese and pickles for lunch.
  2:20pm Dean:

Heh, I just served my daughter a picnic of grilled cheese and strawberries in our front yard. It was her inspiration.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20pm fred:

I'm hesitant to make yet another request, but I'll suggest Marcus Belgrave (I had another idea first, but it wouldn't fit)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm Doug Schulkind:

I've got some Marcus!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:24pm Doug Schulkind:

Good thing I wasn't playing this when you were at the dentist, Monica.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25pm Ken From Hyde Park:

@Dean - That sounds great. Which reminds me, I'm about out of strawberries and I had to throw out my cheese because it molded. Going to need to make a grocery run pretty soon.
Avatar 2:26pm Monica:

my gums are bleeding already:(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm Doug Schulkind:

It's hard to make out on this scratchy old record, but the dentist drill sound effects are killer on this.
Avatar 2:28pm Monica:

thx @troy wharf. the wfmu archives are a beautiful thing.
  2:28pm Dean:

I'd give my eye teeth for a copy of this record.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28pm fred:

Hey people, suggest stuff to Doug before I lapse into stuff you don't want to hear
  2:29pm Dean:

"Free Bird"!

...?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29pm Doug Schulkind:

Did someone mention Tod Dockstader?
  2:30pm Dean:

Charlie Parker is innocent!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30pm fred:

@Dean: The Keiji Haino version?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30pm Ken From Hyde Park:

More Percocet for Monica! Stat!
  2:30pm Dean:

@fred: Isn't his the original?
  2:32pm Dean:

If I close my eyes it's like I'm sitting in my dentist's office.
Avatar 2:34pm Monica:

@ken, next round's on me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm fred:

@Dean: maybe you shouldn't close your eyes then, though it's dubiously viable as a long-term strategy
  2:35pm Dean:

The upside to imaginary visits to the dentist, however, is no co-pay.
Avatar 2:37pm glenn:

how's about some light crust doughboys?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37pm fred:

@Dean: looks like you'll soon have imaginary coverage, that fits
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38pm Doug Schulkind:

No go no dough, glenn.
  2:40pm Dean:

No kidding. Nothingcare. Social Pretend Security. Monopoly Money Pension.
  2:41pm slawooy:

thanks Doug. Ballake by Bembeya Jazz National? or Clay Pigeon's monologue from his show two days ago?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42pm Doug Schulkind:

Easier to get my hands on the Bembeya.
  2:43pm Jeff g.:

Well this is a lovely surprise.
Avatar 2:44pm Monica:

nice...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44pm melinda:

@slawooy that was some monologue.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44pm Doug Schulkind:

You think YOU'RE surprised, Jeff G?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44pm Ken From Hyde Park:

@fred - Good luck on your election tomorrow. If France can show a path to sanity, other countries can follow their example.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44pm fred:

Thanks again Doug, I'll wait a little more for my last suggestion/request. It's not appropriate for your show, so I hope someone else steps up
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm melinda:

I liked the Kerouac reading.
Avatar 2:46pm northguineahills:

oh, you're still on, gneiss!
Avatar 2:47pm northguineahills:

I dig Doug's stream-of-consciousness selecting...!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 2:50pm Troy Wharf:

Wow, Doug you never cease to amaze. What say you folks?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50pm fred:

The one you don't want to heed: Afrirampo, specifically the last track on disc 2 of their We Are Uchu No Ko record
Avatar 2:50pm northguineahills:

Every GTDS dj should do a 24 hours dj set once a year, it would be amazing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:51pm Doug Schulkind:

I'll save that for next time, fred! I go grab some lunch.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 2:51pm Troy Wharf:

Trust the olives are Kalimata.
  2:52pm Doctorjazz:

Trovesi!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm fred:

@Doug: I only mentioned it because I love that track. As I said earlier, it wouldn't fit your show, so I intentionally waited until you had no chance to actually play it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:55pm Doug Schulkind:

@fred
As soon as I realize my show has a "fit," it's time to adjust the show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57pm Doug Schulkind:

And for anyone who ever thought I'd never play Dvorak on the show, he's on trumpet here. Jim Dvorak.
  2:58pm slawooy:

@melinda that was the moment a freeform structure
exposed its true selflessness
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:58pm fred:

@Doug: No! Your show is personal, and that's a good thing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59pm Doug Schulkind:

Oh for a universe that would allow me to just do this everyday and still pay for stuff.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:02pm Troy Wharf:

Thanks, Boss.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:02pm Doug Schulkind:

@slawooy
What a great cut to go out on. Thank you for this. And thank you everyone. ♥♥♥ to you all. See you next Friday morning (unless D:O Radio needs a fill in tomorrow!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Thanks for taking the helm, Doug. If you weren't available, someone would have to dial up the Old Codger. I think his phone number is 6.
Avatar 3:03pm Mayuko:

Thanks again, Doug!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm Doug Schulkind:

So much my pleasure, Mayuko!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:05pm doctorjazz:

Great stuff, Doug, catch you next time, thanks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm Dave in Vermont:

Thanks, Doug.
I got a screen door put in and made some decent headway on my portfolio for my Linguistics capstone/TESOL certificate class.
Avatar 3:05pm glenn:

more like 666.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm Doug Schulkind:

Happy to help, Dave in Vermont!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm fred:

That was a three-hour show that just flew by. Just saying, totally hinting at someone"s show that should go from 2 to 3 hours
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm Doug Schulkind:

I agree totally, fred!
