So wait - Jute Gyte sounds like a Scandinavian name and the vocals include a great Tasmanian Devil impression, but the whole band is some guy from Missouri?

The beautiful dulcet tones of Eugene S Robinson.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm
Polyus:

@Neil - a more broad way of saying psychedelic, I guess. But a lot of British bands right now making great music blending psych with noise rock, drone, groove, all sorts of elements. Whereas most American psych bands I hear are still doing rote recreations of West Coast 60s stuff or, yeah, warmed-over BJM.

Oklahoma- two weeks in 8th grade English classroom circa 1973 diverted to studing Bowie's Ziggy Stardust Spiders from Mars album, mimeographed lyrics and all. Imagine trying to make sense of that! The teacher was fired and the second teacher was severely reprimanded for their initiative.

The owner owned the record store upstairs and he started booking bands he liked, and the Gun Club were amazing. I had never heard of them before.

Howdy, Y'all. Polyus, if you're still around the comments, I just sent you a direct message request. I've been a bit enamored with that neo-psychedelic style you spoke of earlier, as of late, and I was hoping you might be able to give me a short list of some U.K. bands to delve into.

It's fun to have your possibility of seeing age 30 put up to a vote.
  2:45pm
markr:

It was called Bunches Cafe and they had music there from about '80-'83-ish? They were right next to the Bagel Fragel and the Peanut Barrel (the Peanut Barrel's still there!) I saw Eugene Chadbourne there, too. Also R.E.M. played there but I missed it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46pm
Mick:

Thanks for the great music Chris M.
  2:46pm
markr:

They weren't doing music by the late 80s, the guy sold the place and went back to just selling records, and he's still there too, the store is called Flat Black & Circular.

@JP - oops, didn't see it. Actually, a lot of the bands I am thinking of can be heard on this fine station - Gnod, Hey Colossus, Cosmic Dead, Blown Out, Haikai No Ku. I have even been digging that Moonlandingz record, which is a bit more all over the place.
