Jeff Golick:

Hello, @fred! How are you feeling this afternoon?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:02am
Dave in Vermont:

This is melding remarkably well with the other Jeff's opening track.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:02am
Jeff Golick:

Double Jeff power: activate! Morning, @Dave in VT!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:04am
Andrew Waterloo:

good morning
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:04am
fred:

I'll confess I'm quite stressed out over that election thingie
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:06am
Jeff Golick:

Hiya, @Andrew Waterloo! Welcome.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:06am
Jeff Golick:

@fred: I'd imagine so. I almost asked "how anxious are you?"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09am
fred:

Yeah, anxious is the word. When the best outcome is an investment banker with a "right to work" mindset is the best option, all that remains is hoping to avoid the worst
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13am
fred:

Clicky-star for this Jim Black AlasNoAxis track, nonetheless
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:14am
Jeff Golick:

"hoping to avoid the worst" has been my 2017 mantra.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:15am
Dave in Vermont:

Have there been preliminary numbers, Fred? The vote is today?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19am
fred:

@Dave: By law there can be no preliminary numbers here, no polls or even opinion pieces. Turnout at noon is lower than in the last presidential election, which is ominous, because the fascists are definitely voting
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:19am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Wull the U.S. Election had to be simply the Worst Ever. I rant @ people that 'The Lesser of Two Evils' became the incessant chant - but Less Evil is in fact what I want! It's no small thing! But it was absolutely nothing short of a tortuous Election Cycle...w/ a Tortuous Result. It has made the focus starkly clear to me how far the supposed 'Left' gave ground - & how Sold Out the whole System is...& how rotten the great United States has become generally - & in fact the World...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20am
fred:

@RevRab: Worst Ever? Hold our beer
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:20am

In the U.S., lower turnout *very* reliably favors the Right.

Quick hello folks.

@fred I feel for you. In one month we have our elections. I fear a landslide for the Conservatives. There should always be a strong opposition and a manageable majority to avoid extreme actions.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27am
Jeff Golick:

Morning, @melinda! Hello, @Brian in UK!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28am
Jeff Golick:

One sad, cynical thing is that it is so very hard to imagine that any politician at the national level is actually working on behalf of his or her (but mostly his) constituents.

Perhaps it was always thus?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29am
Dave in Vermont:

I've been getting excited about Alvin Lucier lately.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:29am

In the U.S. particularly - it's always been a question of the Capitalist Biz power vs. the People's sway in Gubmint. Teddy Roosevelt pulled it back from the Railroad Robber Barons. It's not unprecedented - but the Cold War really set off a pathological reaction to Socialism in Murica.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31am
Jeff Golick:

Bye, @Brian! Thanks for stopping by.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31am
Dave in Vermont:

Whatever happens, Fred, we'll be here dealing with our own shit. So, good luck.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02am

@Jeff: speaking of yesterday's requests, was it my Marcus Belgrave request that had you surprised?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:02am

they were adventurous musically and slapstick funny at the same time. Bennick would leave his drum set and play drums on anything he could hit with his sticks in the audience. My wife, who is not a fan of adventurous music (though I am breaking her down slowly....may get her to go see Zorn with me at the Village Vanguard) enjoyed their performance.

Mostly it's pointed out how little tolerance I have for change. I knew this going in, but apparently it's a lesson I need to learn over and over and over and over again...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36am
Jeff Golick:

Oh yeah I remember that book, from when I was a teen and my family got a dog.

We've consulted, and been sent, a number of others. And had a trainer come by. In the non-Cesar, positive reinforcement world, it all seems entirely based on shoving treats at 'em. I'm not opposed, but it feels a little one-note.

But it was Trane & pure satisfaction too - wow - a whole world that's not Rawk that I can also love... & the big Smithsonian set for me too - from early Roots music to Ornette & Cecil - rich & wonderful...& that still satisfies - that feeling of immersing in a deep enriching Tradition that is also entertaining & fun...
