h'lo hey
welcome back to your regular show. cheers.
  3:14am
Mark R:

Thanks. Sorry for the shaky start. But amateurish, non-professional radio is what you pledged for.

Scraps:

It's friendly, man

Mark R:

Speaking of friendly, thanks for your support during the Marathon. Enjoy your premiums!

Guido from Cologne:

Good morning Mark!
Beautiful new background color!
I'd recommend white as a color for the characters for better readability.
:-)
  3:18am
Mark R:

Thank my friend Alex the Mad Greek for that. The baby blue always bugged him. Alex also decided my t-shirt premium for the Marathon, which you can see (small) on my playlist homepage.

Thank you, Mark! I'm anticipating.

Guido from Cologne:

Individual background color makes the well established WFMU DeeJay! ...
... eek ... someone tell Joe McG. ...
:-)

Thankyou Thompson:

Playing loud in North Carolina

Mark R:

I'm assuming that you're all too paralyzed with delight to comment--kicked back with headphones on, eyes closed, grooving. I can see you all out there.

Vincent Nifigance:

I'm here, man. Eating poached eggs on sour dough toast in a rainy uk.

Ah ha! See, I knew there was life on Mars, as it were.

I'm listening lying down. Unfortunately I can't mostly comment that way (only one hand, etc). But I'm enjoying. Cheers.

Hello Mark, stopping by to see how you're doing.
  4:44am
Mark R:

That Hank Mobley song only had about a minute left, anyway! Hi Simon, long time, no see! Scraps, a little ELP never hurt anyone. (A LITTLE.)

Turner Classic Movies has been doing a marathon of its own this weekend, devoted to the late Robert Osborne, so that's been competing for my attention.
  4:49am
Mark R:

Yeah, loved Robert Osborne.

Anyway, I'm getting your t-shirt!

Fantastic, thanks for your support!

It's a privilege to support this station and its volunteer DJs.
  5:00am
Mark R:

Simon, I believe you were the first person to ever comment on one of my shows, during my first fill-in. You you said you liked my show, but you'd like it better if I had a regular show. I'll always remember that.
  5:01am
Mark R:

Playing this song is not an endorsement of drinking and driving.

People at work think I'm an incredibly savvy music aficionado. It ain't me, it's WFMU.
  5:02am
Mark R:

I've learned about a lot of new music just from listening to everybody else's shows. A lot of it's old, but it was new to me!
  5:03am
Mark R:

Thanks to everyone who pledged during the 2017 WFMU Marathon--we hit our goal! That means we get to keep doing twisted, demented radio for another year! Yaaaaay!
Avatar 5:06am
pacific standard simon:

I can't remember the last time the goal was reached before the end of the marathon. Usually it takes a few extra days.
  5:09am
Mark R:

I know--I was prepared to keep begging, but you all came through, so I get to do a regular, beg-less show.
Avatar 5:26am

Boy, I haven't heard this in years...

Good morning, Mark. Recorded this album on a five inch reel to reel from a friends speakers. Brother, time flies.
Agreed, about She's Leaving Home.

Carla Bley? Can't remember if she's there
Avatar 5:35am
pacific standard simon:

My "babysitter" (I was 11) bought Sgt. Pepper when it came out, with the money she got for watching me and my younger sisters. Then she played it for us.
Avatar 5:39am
pacific standard simon:

I can almost imagine Lou Reed singing "Sister Ray" over this.
  5:39am
Mark R:

Carla Bley is indeed on here, Scraps. Cecil Taylor plays on some of the other tunes. Basically EVERYBODY'S on this record. This tune has five (5!) bass players. I don't even know what five bass players would do without stepping all over each other.

I like Mantler at his busiest. (Well, I like Mantler period.)
