Favoriting Bryce: Playlist from February 17, 2017 Favoriting

I never miscue a record. I am punctual, well-prepared, and dislike clutter. Outgoing and helpful, I'm always appropriately dressed. I do not behave erratically and have excellent penmanship. My CD's never skip, and I am in good health. I like all the notes, in any order.

Yes! Farthest station I pulled in from Syracuse was Radio Kuwait (could barely make out the signal, but I heard enough bits and pieces to confirm reception) This was with a simple copper-wire antenna, think it was about 20 feet long?, that my dad and I strung up in our backyard, connected to a metal pole at the end pounded 6 feet in the ground so we didn't electrocute ourselves during a thunderstorm and burn the house down and stuff, cuz that woud've been bad

Never managed to pull in Radio Pyongyang though. Them and Radio Havana Cuba (strong signal, very easy to receive in the Western hemisphere) are pretty much the last commie SW stations on the air
  1:30pm
Clïff in Prägůe:

Bryce, my dad used to be a truck driver, he had a CB radio and he knew ALL the 10-codes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm

Shortwave sounds cool, I'd like to try that. Ham would be fun too but you have to like go to school or something for that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm

i had a dinkly little shortwave radio once but I think that probably doesn't cut it
Avatar 1:31pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm
dgg:

  1:35pm
Clïff in Prägůe:

dgg - I keep thinking about getting a ham license too, there are ones on the FM bands that are relatively easy to study for because they don't require you to learn Morse code. On the other hand if you get a longwave license you can communicate with ships at sea and stuff, that's pretty cool too

Bronwyn - you're so right, once Trump destroys all of western civilization and the internet is gone forever, ham radio will have to serve as our main method of long-distance communication
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm

we'll have to also resort to line-of-sight optics.

  1:51pm
Clïff in Prägůe:

Shortwave has been pretty boring and depressing the last few years, it's mostly just conservative religious stations in the US. In the 90s it was way cooler, I was getting all kinds of news and cultural programs from Europe/S. America/Australia/etc., and this was before we had an internet connection at home
Avatar 1:52pm
βrian:

What were those ads on TV? ... Radio Free Europe? With the actor/dj finishing by calling out "On Broadvay," as the music began.
  1:53pm
Clïff in Prägůe:

Not that I mind conservative religious stations broadcasting their views, I'm an absolute believer in free speech. I just wish it wasn't the only thing available on SW anymore.
Avatar 1:55pm
Chris from DC:

I remember listening to Radio Moscow way back when it was Soviet Propaganda like "The Way We See It".
  1:56pm
Clïff in Prägůe:

Ah yes, Radio Free Europe & Radio Liberty, still broadcasting American Capitalist propaganda to Eastern Europe & Russia! And then there's Radio Martí, broadcast at Cuba from Miami, which the Cuban government has been jamming for decades so nobody in Cuba actually gets to hear it. Our tax dollars at work!!
