Good morning Nate

Sem Chumbo:

Hello, and good morning, Nate, fred.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39am
Nate K.:

Morning, Sem and Fred, and everyone else out there lurking. Welcome.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:43am
Stanley:

I lead the lurkers
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:05am
Sem Chumbo:

finally, enough cowbell.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:10am
Stanley:

I love them teenage existential angst songs
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:13am
Nate K.:

@Stanley, indeed, they are a fundamental of rock 'n' roll in many ways. Prog tried to kill 'em but couldn't quite pull it off.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:17am
Stanley:

Slade sounding quite retsrained on that
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:21am
fred:

Prog always seemed more like a college-age thing to me, not really teenager music
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:25am
Stanley:

Funny you say that, fred my first 'serious' musical purchase was an ELP album but I suppose it depends, as it did with me, on who's influence I was under at the time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:31am
fred:

Well, I wouldn't use myself as an example either: the first LP I bought with my "own" money was The Wall, and my college years were focused on hip-hop, Riot Grrrl, and Ryuichi Sakamoto
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:33am
Sem Chumbo:

Court of the Crimson King for me, though didn't have any idea about its prog designation. Heard it a party and associated it with the thing under the influence of which I was at the time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:33am
DonJuanTijuana:

Hi Nate & Pyros
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:37am
Stanley:

Sure, Sem and in the beginning it was very much a formula of long hair + pot = prog (preferably lying down) but I managed to adapt the formula later on, short hair + pot = punk (definitely standing up)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:38am
Stanley:

(and hair was where's it at)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:38am
Sem Chumbo:

hahha, Stanley, well said.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:38am
fred:

Yeah, lying down at a punk show would get you trampled
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:46am

dig this nuggets-y set.

@ a Metally show - occured to me Metalheads stay rooted - stake out a territory & bang heads, it's all percussion really - whereas you expect Punks to be all over the place...I remember being in SantaBarbara, & a show w/ locals Toad the Wet Sprocket - R.E.M.~Smiths-y AltFolkRawk - & all the locals in the club *sat down*, right where they were...& *listened*. I thot - wow - this is kinda the concert I always wanted to be @...Always think of Jazz 'Swinging' - side to side & as Duke Ellington says is a film - you don't even snap yer fingers right on the beat for fear of being too forward - whereas Rawk - Rawks - back&forth, shaking a fist perhaps. We like to be Eclectic, but then different Rhythms & Genres are completely different ways of going thru the world...
This isn't Brian Ferry??

@RevRab: On Friday I saw Mohammad, it was too crowded for people to sit, though it would have made sense for this loud and low drone. I never expected this show to be sold out. I take it as a good sign

Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Kewl ones kev! I was a little brother - so I can't sort what I was spoonfed, copious hand-me-downs, B-Day gifts, & finally my own purchases..notable 45s were just 'around' - but I don't remember ever buying a 45 new, once I thot about it! 1st LP of my own I got New w/ shrinkwrap & all might have been 'Let It Be' from the bargain bin for a B-Day. Buying TheWh♂'s 1st album on my own was important - probably from the $1.99 also, but no idea which was 1st...
A brave bandname fred! Taking the mountain to Mohammad, as it were...

Tues was record release day remember waiting on line to get volunteers and clear light in mono oh to go back to '69
Avatar 8:29am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I wonder how much touring all of Europe is like going across the U.S. The latter is proverbially like dissolving into nothing in something vast.
- It only just stopped being Tue.s pretty recently, yeah?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:29am
fred:

I really liked the Aquarian Blood track. Looks like they're not likely to tour nearby though, sigh

I wonder if that record store is still in ridgewood nj?

@kev: if you manage, please have a look around for my beaded headband. Lost it somewhere back there...

Some bit of writing I wish I could find again - about TheShaggs & the NH 'music scene' w/ bands of just the wrong decade or something - said NH isn't behind the times so much as just out of the loop...that's why these people are up here I guess.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:38am
Sem Chumbo:

@kev: envy, knees here now titanium reinforced.

pretty good hardcore scene my son plays and of course the Celtic and contra dance circuit rules
Avatar 8:47am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@kev: It's probably less true now - there are good bands. Still - marvel how the crap radio station in the town I grew up in hasn't changed...people into the awful part of the 80s I hated even then - that sort of thing generally...
