Thanks, guys!

My brain feels like that kitten gif, this morning.

Spitting Image puppets ahoy!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:12am
Amanda:

Seriously -- I will never be able to listen to this without seeing them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:14am
listener james from westwood:

As close a marriage of song and video for me as the song and vid for "Money for Nothing."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:16am
pantz:

I'd have to rank "Ashes to Ashes" video up there with that thought.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20am

Kittens on coke!

Look at the Bee Gees not being a disco outfit. I love it!

Nate K.:

Welcome back! Missed your show these past couple of weeks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39am
listener james from westwood:

Quoting, as I did last night, the snippet from Gary Sullivan's show open: "Bodegas are our friends!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41am
Amanda:

Gary is a fount of wisdom, always.

Aw, thanks @Nate!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44am
listener james from westwood:

His show last night was a fucking fireball. As was he.
Avatar 9:49am

Twenty Four Hours is the best song ever
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51am
Amanda:

@KP, I love it too. That version is so swingin'!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52am
listener james from westwood:

"Sam Stone" was new to me, and as a fan of 1960s/70s "subject of this song is going to end up poorly" songs, I was happy to make its acquaintance.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55am
Amanda:

Written by John Prine, his masterpiece. A few great versions of it have been done over the years - Swamp Dogg's is a fav
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58am
pantz:

This JW Coleman is great! Nice pick @Amanda.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03am
listener james from westwood:

I think I still have the first 2 CDs I bought, between freshman and sophomore years of college: a comp of Rossini overtures, and a comp of Bach organ works by Virgil Fox.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03am
listener james from westwood:

From there it was, as for many 80s/early 90s college students, straight into the velvet arms of Columbia House.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08am
pantz:

This show is starting to look like Oscar's Night. So many stars.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08am
Amanda:

Somehow I avoided ever being in Columbia House. Somehow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09am
Amanda:

Awful kind of ye, @pantz!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11am
Nate K.:

Was somebody of note in Earthquake?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14am
Amanda:

Nobody that I have ever noted. They had some overlap with the Greg Kihn band but not Greg himself. (Also, playlist edited with correct spelling Earth Quake.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17am
Little Danny:

G'mornin' Amanda and everybody. I want to be lying in the middle of today's GIF
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18am
Nate K.:

Thanks, Amanda. I must say, this REM song sounds shockingly, sadly relevant. And also surprisingly fresh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18am
Amanda:

Ah, @Little Danny, but you ARE lying in the middle of it now. Welcome!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19am
Amanda:

"I feel better having screamed, don't you?"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34am

I'd like to hear more about your theories on Sleater-Kinney. Got a blog or somethin'?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35am
Stevel:

Just let us know if Mr. Fiveash would like us to brainstorm a snazzy name for his wonderful show.
  10:38am
Alex In Illinois:

This song really exists! I have heard it since I was a kid.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41am
Amanda:

@pantz I do have one, but it's mostly dormant now. Basically the theory is: one person, amazing guitar player and good singer. second person, amazing singer and good guitar player. (Good meaning, like, good enough to carry a lesser band easily.) Third person= one of the greatest drummers alive. All of that=best trio
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42am
Amanda:

@Alex in IL -- Yes! Validation!
  10:48am
JakeGould:

Hello!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48am
Amanda:

Hey @Jake! Thanks for participating.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51am
pantz:

Tony Basil was really after the Benatar sound.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52am
Amanda:

Yes, agreed. I'd also say this is the song that goes best with the kitten gif so far.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58am
listener james from westwood:

It was from PBS, so Trump cut off its funding.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59am
Parq:

Apparently, he doesn't actually want to sing with him.

JakeGould:

As a participant I appreciate your coordination.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01am
listener james from westwood:

Ooooh, Raposo tribute!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01am
Parq:

That sounds great -- I'm a huge Joe Raposso fan. Moss too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03am
listener james from westwood:

Note that this kid's show dared to use a grownup phrase like "That sounds like a novel idea," not something goopy or the like. Hoping we don't forget all that Seasme Street did for kids in this foul age of budget slashing and monetizing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04am
listener james from westwood:

And by extension, PBS.
  11:04am
Alex in Illinois:

Doesn't "Benatar" sound like a name of a musical instrument?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06am
listener james from westwood:

Otto's proposal music!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07am
Amanda:

Ha! Well remembered, Listener James!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08am
pantz:

@Alex Benatar was her stage name, so perhaps that was her aim.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08am
Parq:

I've heard that SS has been dumbed down and sanitized of late. I hope that's not true.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10am
listener james from westwood:

Cutting it to a half hour, and moving it to HBO, weren't the best moves. And Elmo's long been the Scrappy Doo of that outfit, unit-shifting capabilities notwithstanding.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12am
Amanda:

This passionate Sesame Street discussion bodes well for next week's show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18am
pantz:

The concept of a giant bird puppet having his own imaginary friend was mind-boggling for me as a kid, but I loved it.
  11:18am
JakeGould:

Sesame Street was great when it didn't pander. I wish Mr. Hooper's shop evolved to sell lottery tickets, cell phone accessories and vape gear... To Muppets.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20am
listener james from westwood:

"Helloooooo, Mister Bush!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20am

"41", as they used to call Bush Sr.

Amanda, that's exactly my position on S-K, to the note.

Shearer was our voice on GHWB in the Lisa in Washington one, I assume, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am

Bush had it coming when he included the show in his railing on the topic of the so-called culture wars.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am
listener james from westwood:

OMG, the birth of Disco Stu!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34am
Ken From Hyde Park:

"Hello, Mister Bush" was just how Dennis the Menace yelled "Hello, Mister Wilson" on the 60s TV show, as ljww pointed out.
Avatar 11:37am
northguineahills:

"I'm here for warming of house".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38am
listener james from westwood:

Most absurd Homer line in the ep: "Hey! My taxes paid for that horn!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43am
listener james from westwood:

Didn't know he was such a disputatious character; to me, the Disco Stu existence gag is what I'd cite as typically and uniquely Simpsons-esque humor. Not unlike Lisa mentioning tripe figuratively, and then the tripe appearing, in the vegetarian ep.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50am
Amanda:

Ah! A great argument in support of the Disco Stu-ers. I do agree that he's something that could only happen in the Simpsonverse.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54am
Parq:

Love it! My kid just got her first career-track job as a librarian.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54am
listener james from westwood:

Heh, was that "greasy reader" dig a nod at the Electric Company?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55am
listener james from westwood:

"It's the plumber—I've come to wreck the track!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55am
Parq:

Well, got further, anyway.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56am
Amanda:

Now you see why I wanted to play it so badly. :-) Anyway, looking fwd to seeing all of you next week for the Raposo special.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57am
Amanda:

Good call, James -- I missed that EC reference at first!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58am
Ken From Hyde Park:

Congrats, Parq. I think my son would do well with a job in a library.
Glad to have you back, Amanda. The sun is shining brightly so you can see your shadow today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58am
pantz:

Great show, as usual. Looking forward to next Thursday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59am

Thanks a bunch, Amanda!!
