This is where all of culture and all of time are collapsed into one seductive portal and viewed through the panoramic lens of the exotic. Come and embark on an armchair-travel virtual-voyage to the heart of timeless darkness and beyond; embrace the numinous monolith of the exotic immensity. Let us find that place where hybridization meets its destiny as pure fantasy. Let us become observers observing those others who are ourselves. You wear your mask and I'll wear mine.

(actually the record is Mariner by C of L & JC)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:42pm

Is that record "Mariner"? I just checked Amazon, they have it. Very cool! Tough to be in the performance arts...my older daughter is trying for musical theater, spends days waiting many hours to get 1 minute to audition, waitresses the rest of the time (had some local theater that just finished). Best of luck!

dropping by to say hi! also, now wondering about #1 favorite Parliament track...(does this also include the Parliaments era?) ... oh my.... and is reminded that the 'come in out of the rain' 45 is ever so elusive... hi everyone!
Avatar 8:58pm
Flash Strap:

Hi J-K! Generally I prefer Funkadelic and The Parliaments to Parliament, and Parliament to P-Funk, if that helps
Avatar 9:00pm
Flash Strap:

it's all good in its way, though. I am a Funkadelic boy to the end of days and that's the deal

thanks, g, and I'm glad of it
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:03pm

Parliaments have some outstanding 45s. (Reminds me, I need to find "Don't Be Sore At Me" ... again.) Also, if I ever stumble across their 45 on Golden World for 50 cents, that'd be pretty nifty.

I've read that in Eisenhower's first draft of his speech he referred to the 'military-industrial-congressional complex'.

My fave Parliament LPs ... Osmium and Mothership. Funkadelic - Maggot Brain and Free Your Mind... There's a really great Wax Poetics from a few years ago that has the entire issue dedicated to Parliament/Funkadelic. Gonna have to dig out and re-read.
Avatar 9:06pm
Flash Strap:

Super curious who's on the synth here, I've never seen a credit I don't think
Avatar 9:07pm
hyde:

my take on Parliament etc is that the first LP i ever bought by any incarnation of those bands is The Clones of Dr. Funkenstein that i got at Strawberiies for $3.99, and in some ways it will always remain my favorite even if it is not the best
Avatar 9:09pm
Flash Strap:

I'm so completely obsessed with the first three Funkadelic LPs I can barely see beyond them sometimes. They are so rock solid genius

America Eats Its Young is amazing too. Favorite Parliament LPs are Choco City and Osmium
