Nice nod there to WFMU's traditions, Dan, with the screen jump in the middle of the traffic announcement! But very calm and professional all round and a great way to work towards lunchtime here in the UK and I suspect a nice easy into the day and the ensuing madness for listeners in NJ and NYC. Excellent!

You may be a morning show in NJ, but you're a lunchtime show in Paris - you are hitting the spot, as we say here, n'est pas? And merci pour not talking over the music like the narcissistic idiot they tried out the past couple of days.

Wow I'm back in my dimly lit teenage bedroom, burning incense and listening to W4.

I agree Ken! So far my favorite part of this program, aside from some cool music has been Dan's comments and friendly tone.
  7:45am
JoJo from Paris:

I wasn't talking about today's guy, you crazy Americans can't read? This guy today play Kinks and Traffic - he got my vote. I was talking about the jerkoff on Monday et Tuesday who wouldn't shut up, like a child.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:47am
-Ken:

Yes Jojo, that is who I was talking about. But you sound exactly like an American, with your immature personal attacks and name calling. Go Marine LePen!
  7:47am
Cliff in Prague:

I thought "jerkoff" was spelled "le jerque-ouve" in French
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:48am
fred:

@JoJo: Are you unable to say anything good without trashing someone else? Typical French, I guess. I'll rebel against that by not even hinting at anything good about you.
@Ken: We have Marine and Marion, make up your mind, two is far more than plenty!
  7:48am
JoJo from Paris:

If you want. oh tut tut.

I'm opposed on principle to one dj for three hours five days a week, but have to say that Dan is the most palatable option yet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54am

Ken, you say you will be hiring someone for this slot. Does that mean it will be a paid position?
Are you considering co-hosts?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55am
Guido from Cologne:

I absolutely go for Clay's lively Microphone work.
If you cannot dig that, you just don't get it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55am
Uncle Michael:

No one has used FOW's "Traffic and Weather"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:56am
-Ken:

I would consider co-hosts but only if the team is pre-existing and they already have good chemistry. But I prefer somebody who doesn't need a co-host so they can talk to the listeners, not their crutch/co-host. Yes, it will be a paid position if I hire one person for all five days, which is my preference, just as Nachum was paid to come in at 6 every morning.
  7:56am
A. Lissner:

Clay is a cool guy who makes amazing original music of his own, but the talking-over-the-music shtick is annoying -- let the music do the talking, I say.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:58am

I swear I can hear the West coast of America in Dan the Selector's choice cuts
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:00am
Guido from Cologne:

Must say I absolutely loved Dave Bombay's microphone work.
(Ignoring his availability.)
  8:00am
Blix:

It takes all kinds, the best philosophy of FMU. The music this morning all hasn't really been my bag, but more than happy to listen as the whole process plays itself out. As someone from the Canadian side of Detroit, I was fascinated by Dan's anecdotes of Motown in the fifties...but I was equally compelled by Clay's Montrose air guitar the other morning.
Avatar 8:01am
duke:

I really like Clay's on-air personality and I don't mind him talking over the music, probably because his taste in music doesn't match mine.
Avatar 8:01am
The Professor:

All this talk about radio "principle" and whining about a DJ speaking over a track is so tiresome. Talking over songs on the radio is a proud tradition of the medium. It's how rap music began, and it's why radio can be so much more fun their a sterile Spotify feed.

Well said, Mr Professor. I agree.

Talking over the music is also a proud (?) tradition of AM radio. Is that what we want (and expect) from WFMU? What's next, whistles and kazoos? I say keep WFMU for the adults.

If you're an adult Henry, I'd rather hang out with the kids.

Any 70s American car people who know exactly what the "diamond in the back" refers to?
Avatar 8:28am
The Professor:

1971 Buick Riviera, look it up. Look at the photos of the back end. It's a beautiful car.
  8:29am
Brother Kim:

Diamond in the back refers to the shape of the rear window after installing custom vinyl top. Right up there with curb feelers and dingle balls!
  8:31am
melinda:

The Primitive Gods was nice.
  Swag For Life Member 8:32am
Walt:

@Professor, there was also a custom modification that could be done on any car, where a vinyl top was extended over the back window in a diamond shape. Here's a photo:

media.urbandictionary.com...

I was around during the early 70s and always heard this edition of the Riviera referred to as the "boattail." That doesn't mean that they didn't call it the "diamond in the back" too, but I've never heard that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:32am

I too am a fan of the gorgeous Riveria, but I'm thinking Brother Kim has the right answer as I turn my mind back to the Kustom Klassics of my youth.

Got here late, listened in the car (that's the way one is supposed to listen to a morning show, I suppose). Really enjoying this morning.. WILCO!
Got distracted... My car listening had generally been depressing npr news, maybe a bit of jazz on WKCR. The morning drive with today's show was great. One thing.. These days, I check my phone for weather before I leave the house, use Waze on my phone for traffic guidance, don't need the heavy traffic and weather help all the DJs have been giving, just want an engaging show. My $0.02

For what it's worth, as a fellow New Yorker, I have to agree with Dr Jazz. Additionally to not needing the weather and traffic - I also don't need the forced incessant overblown laughter. I do miss the cheesy music Nachem would play tho. So earnest, so uncool.
