She fought with directors and fellow cast members. She drank. In 1968, her friend, writer Lee Israel, took her to dinner at Sardi’s and interviewed her for the New York Times. Stritch was, as always, candid. A few days after the interview was published, director Hal Prince called and offered her a part in his new show, “Company.”
