Oh, cool! Pink Floyd!

Ditto. Hey, Marty, KfHP.

Never heard of this one, sounds pretty good. Cheapest copy I can see is $100 though.

Not even John Lydon hates PinkFloyd.
Avatar 9:08am
Chris from DC:

Wow, this.
Avatar 9:09am
PKNY:

I admit I had a dislike of Pink Floyd until I heard the pre-Dark Side stuff. Classic rock radio did me a real disservice while I was growing up.

^^^Same here PKNY. its a bit of a shame
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:15am
Polyus:

I fell in love with Pink Floyd at a young age, thanks to an older cousin. That post-Dark Side stuff is a part of my DNA, even though I can't listen to most of it now.
Avatar 9:17am
Chris from DC:

I definitely can't listen to Dark Side. Wish You Were Here still sounds pretty good to me once in a while.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21am
fred:

The Wall was the first LP I bought with "my own money". I hadn't heard it in over a decade until last week when it was played as background to physical therapy. A weird choice as none of the therapists was born when that record came out

What they said. Thanks to radio saturation, Dark Side is the Osmonds to these ears.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29am

@RTD: You mean there's a recording of David Gilmour belting out Karawane?
Avatar 9:30am
Bronwyn Bishop:

marty my man! everybody!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30am

After seeing Dark Side come up in that new PBS series Soundbreaking, I thought about going back to revisit it, but I don't even have a copy anymore. I did just grab that 69-72 disc though, tons of good stuff.
Avatar 9:32am
Rev. Turnip Druid:

THAT, Fred, I'd give that a chance.
I'll still dig Pink Floyd material up to Dark Side, but that's my limit. Unpopular opinion maybe, but I can't swing with the gospel vocals in that. Such an arbitrary choice. Like putting salted mice in your coffee.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33am

Man! I did not do enough Thorazine for today's show.

Almost every Friday I tell myself that it will be a bad idea to have WFMU on while I work because Marty's show is FAR TOO DISTRACTING. And here I am, again, loving the transitions and not getting much done...

mr quintron :))))

ha ha ha, he is neither Wesley Willis-like, nor is he Clay Aiken. i was working with him when he made this record and i used to tease him about that cassette-tape-sounding production.

Beyond all the death and the rise of that reality show nazi shitgibbon, one of the totally shitty but overlooked aspects of why 2016 is easily the worst year of the decade is the Bambaataa sex abuse allegations that broke in April.
Avatar 10:10am
Cecile:

Yes, prb. It was one of the worst heartbreaks of a terrible year.

Fuck Buttons is scary-good. Fitting for an angsty Friday morning.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26am
JtotheK:

@PRB, Cecile -- re: Bam - agreed. Looking at various 'history of hip-hop' books on my shelves, he's mentioned in everything. (Not to mention a bunch of documentaries - some of which are new to streaming services and I've yet to watch.) And then the news from April - you're right Cecile, heartbreaking.

Morning, everyone. I second stevel and blee on the Fuck Buttons.

I saw Fuck Buttons 5 years ago, but it was somewhere in Brooklyn...
Avatar 10:28am

J2K and PRB, I made big deal at an indy comics show of buying the comic book history of hip hop out of order so I could have the one with Bambatta first, because "he's the best!"
Avatar 10:29am
Wild Neil:

PEACE all. I liked Pink Floyd for a long time, but consider them a gateway drug to stuff like King Crimson, Can, Hawkwind et al...really like Careful With That Axe, Eugene though....strongly dislike anything from The Final Cut and thereafter....
Avatar 10:29am

I cheated and saw that Hawkwind would be making an appearance today. Doesn't make me any less happy!

For a few months after buying this album I read it as, "hall of the mountain girl" ;-)

Is Gemmersheim "An Import" (the Pink Floyd record)?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33am
Passaic River Blues:

@Cecile: I HAVE THAT COMIC and ordered it more or less for the same reason ("Zulu Nation!"). Nothing stops ZN, Soulsonic Force, Baby Bam, etc., from being awesome even if one's enjoyment is now tangled up in a complicated web of shittiness. "Planet Rock" was playing in the post office a couple of weeks ago, and it was sublime.

prb, what I do now is say to myself that "his goodness now rests solely in his art". I've had to do that a lot lately.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59am

@Cecile: that is exactly the right sentiment and expressed well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02am

Deltron! Haven't listened to this in a long time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03am

@Cecile, PRB -- same. Try to separate the music from the person. Not always easy.
  11:03am
Blix:

After avoiding buying this Zombi record many times when you played it previously, at this, the worst time of the year for me to be spending on myself, you play this Zombi again and force me into buying it. Bastard.

I saw what I believe was Big L's last appearance (or one of the last) at Wetlands in January 1999. He was nonchalantly beasting it and then it seemed like the next day he was killed behind the dumbest shit.
