Favoriting Hinky Dinky Time with Uncle Michael: Playlist from December 2, 2016 Favoriting

Uncle Michael's avatar View Uncle Michael's profile Favoriting

Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

I mean I was so floored by the Beatles when I was like 14, and then I really got into the Kinks 15 years later and I could not believe I ever thought the Fab Four were the apogee of British Rock

Like when someone plays a Neil Young song you somehow never heard even though you thought you collected literally everything he ever recorded
Avatar 12:53pm

Helter Skelter rocks harder than anything the Kinks ever did, IMOP. The Kinks are great, and they do rock sometimes, but they are about 13.5% the depth and talent of the Beatles.

Borrowed SF, Elton John's first, and "Tapestry" at once from a neighbor back then. Acquired the Stones' record, zipper and all, and never again paid heed to EJ or CK. Maybe I should make amends.

Further, I'm not sure what "the exception that proves the rule" means, but I think Helter Skelter is that. :)

Mine is and has long been "Goat's Head Soup." Serves the Stones right.

supposedly that Os Mutantes album title translates to "The Divine Comedy or I Am a Bit Disconnected"
