I owe, I owe,
It's off to work I go.
With an aching head
From a nice warm bed.
So let's bring on the show.

Just finished stacking my teeter pile of goodies. Oh what joy shall engulf us!
Avatar 8:36am Thelonious Funk:

Now that's a shuffle!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:42am Doug Schulkind:

Hey, Thelonious, you will be performing during today's broadcast! You better have your fingers gargle with warm lemon water.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 8:48am doctorjazz:

Hey, Hi all! Went to a great show in Manhattan last night (don't get around weeknights much anymore...), great show! Ben Allison, trio called "The Easy Way", album release "party" with Steve Cardenas on guitar and Ted Nash tenor sax and clarinet, drumless trio tribute to Jimmy Giuffre and Jim Hall. Great set at Smoke (Nash is great, gave edge to what could have been a polite sound). (end of mini review)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:52am Doug Schulkind:

You had me at "Giuffre," doctorjazz! Good morning!

@doctorjazz briefly harking back to Phil Ochs last Monday. I believe I linked an album which really pleased and surprised me how he was holding it together considering that he took his life only three years later. If you would like a copy let me know.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43am Doug Schulkind:

@hyde
Whose Spanish accent is worse, Jennifer Jones' or Nat King Cole's?
Avatar 9:43am Thelonious Funk:

This is definitely sung in Turkish. I was in Ankara about 2 months ago.

@Jeff Golick
Are you kidding? That rooster IS royalty. This is being performed at the Royal Roost. (Can't you hear Bird in the background?)
Avatar 10:08am Thelonious Funk:

What about the crickets from last years show? Last year I clearly remember listening to a Korean folk song on the show and there was lots of crickets chirping, it was very soothing. More animals in studios please or more microphones outside!

Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:16am Brian in UK:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17am Doug Schulkind:

I adore recordings with the ambient sounds of everyday life in the back/foreground. Roosters, crickets, crying children.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18am Doug Schulkind:

What languid are you speaking, Brian in UK?

Great morning, Flash Strap, Admiral to the Otherworld!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21am Jeff Golick:

The first recording I thought of when reading "ambient sounds of everyday life" was Jim Carroll asking for a Tuinol on VU's Live at Max's.
Avatar 10:21am hyde:

really getting down to the nitty gritty on this packing. anyone need a random pile of foreign coins? some old floppy disks? perhaps some dark corn syrup that expired in 2013?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22am Jeff Golick:

I'll trade you, @hyde, this ancient, opened, partial box of lasagne noodles for the corn syrup.
Avatar 🥁 10:22am βrian:

@Doug Rolling my sleeves up, gargling fingers with warm lemon water.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29am Alex In Illinois:

I guess showing Pygmies in a zoo is worse than having them on exhibition at the World's Fair, along with various other peoples on display.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:30am Brian in UK:

Doug, I am sure he was not referring to the zoo but a W H Auden quote from the mid Twentieth Century got my attention. "We haunt a ruined century".
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:33am Artie Haywire:
