How do, all those in the Nazario Zone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04pm
Amanda:

Welcome one and all!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04pm
Gaylord Fields:

Sigh...I guess Brooklyn and Queens technically count as New York.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm
Amanda:

Eep, I hope Ron Dante's beloved Staten Island counts too, Gaylord!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm
Gaylord Fields:

@Amanda: I thought Archie was from Riverdale?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm
listener james from westwood:

Ah, local electronics suppliers and their ads!
Avatar 12:10pm
ndbob:

afternoon Amanda and everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm
Amanda:

A commonly-held misconception. But Carly Simon, who I played on a past one of these, is really from Riverdale!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm
Gaylord Fields:

Native Manhattanite snobbery is such a quaint and archaic concept — which is why I will revel in it way past its expiration date.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm
doctorjazz:

Kid Creole, saw them back in the day, great band!
Hiu all!

Good afternoon, Amanda and all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm
Amanda:

I love Kid Creole & the Coconuts. Super underrated.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm
Gaylord Fields:

Amanda, would John B. Sebastian be the famous New York musician who grew up closest to where you did? Mine would be Suzanne Vega and Fiona Apple.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm
listener james from westwood:

In my case it's Jennifer Lopez. She's Castle Hill, I was that and Parkchester, both in the boogie-down Bronx.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm
Amanda:

I think it's likely, Gaylord! Though Ad-Rock went to the same elementary school as me so he might have been even closer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm
Gaylord Fields:

@listener james from the block: That's a pretty great one!

If you are descended from a New Yorker, you are one of us!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm
listener james from westwood:

I descended from the New Yorker to Mad Magazine to Screw.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

Before anyone else grabs him, I'm claiming Lawrence Welk as the closest musician to my growing-up home. Not much New York connection, I suppose. He went west coast to seek his fortune.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm
listener james from westwood:

Hah! Speaking of Screw!!
Avatar 12:44pm
@sugarwolf@:

I used to visit my father who worked in Manhattan. Back then, there was a Chemical Bank on the ground floor, now it's a Kate Spade!
Avatar 12:46pm

What wasn't SFW about that?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm
listener james from westwood:

Dueling tobacco-scarred NYC pornographers: Al Goldstein and Bob Guccione.
Avatar 12:46pm
@sugarwolf@:

Oh, this summer a local judge was a super gross racist jerk to a local Mexican restaurant. His name was Al Goldstein, and all I could think was wow, he gives a bad name to Al Goldsteins!!
Avatar 12:46pm
ndbob:

I knew a number of people from Welk's home area when I lived in North Dakota
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm
Amanda:

You guys're right, I selected a pretty tame segment to broadcast.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm
listener james from westwood:

I helped at the admissions booth of the FMU Record Fair alongside a woman who worked w/ Al G. (not the judge) and she had such stories.
Avatar 12:49pm
geezerette:

I survived Seacaucus. That should count.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm

@geezerette: You get a special dispensation because Channel 9 broadcast out of Sea-Caucus.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm

Peak moment as a new NYC commuter was hearing two folks outside said hotel sing "And in the center of it all / Is the Milford Plaza!"

@Amanda @listener james from westwood: More so than Tom Poston?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm
Amanda:

@Gaylord, it's a good point--Tom Poston was well respected and, perhaps more to the point, terrific in the role!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm
Gaylord Fields:

Precisely, Amanda: I'd call Bennett and Poston "co-gets."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm

Now that I see he was on "Mork and Mindy," I agree.

i don't see anyone from staten island on the playlist
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09am
Amanda:

The Cuff Links are from Staten Island.
  8:32pm
Bah bah buh-buh-buh-baaah:

Seems you're right. There's a twist in Cuff Links' history - SI's Ron Dante wasn't on the second/final album, after signing an exclusive deal with the Archies (and/or dispute with record co.) - Brit Rupert Holmes sang most of it's lead vocals, says Wkpd . . . . Last month Dante did an 11-song set with the Fruitgum Co. . . . . Holmes' ringtone is coughing, so not to disrupt theater attendances . . . . I posted a couple jingles to YT, but no one's found the c. 1975-6 radio jingle for the Martin's Paint store chain burned into my memory from singing it with a classmate to school.
