@Rob Kopp: I've forgotten what Tanita Tikaram sounds like, will investigate later.
statoj:
But he had guests who were excellent contemporary folk musicians whom he would jam with. I only learned this later, those jams were totally NOT Perry Como material . I have to research who they were, but it surprised me recently when I saw old clips.

List of Andy's guests. Quite diverse.
"Crooner" is the word I should have used instead of "hipster." He was a guitar picker who loved interacting with musicians. Growing up on the Airplane with "Up against the wall, m"""""er in our heads, it was easy to say "White bread" to Andy, but he was a sincere musician. I regret the sweaters, but whatever!

Dick Calvert never needed no stinkin' drugs. He was just a bright, intelligent soul with a gift for irony.
Randy Newman immortalized him in his song, Rednecks. (Albeit in the voice of the redneck.)

Fortunately, though, Cavett isn't a "was," he's still an "is." Still gifted, I assume, too. He likes to brag about his uncanny ability to generate anagrams on command.

Well Cavett's affect was not that of a stoner. His timing was precise. I suppose it is possible he indulged, but his detachment was not suggestive of the door culture. But I suppose it is possibke. Pot was groovy, no argument.
