Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23am Doug Schulkind:

Black air? Just like, so they tell me, Pittsburgh. Even into the early 1970s, office workers here had to bring a second shirt to change into midday, because the first was soot-soiled by noon.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:24am Brian in UK:

Terry Earl Taylor sounds a bit like Mike Cooper.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26am Doug Schulkind:

This Alasdair Roberts tune has a new unofficial subtitle: PLUG BREXIT UP THE BUM

Brian, so much sun today that I managed to get the grass cut.

Doug, Hurley stayed with us, by accident ( aka Irish tour manager ) for four days and six hours, some years back. I still have this recurring nightmare ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42am Doug Schulkind:

The last six hours are always the toughest, Paul!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43am Doug Schulkind:

Our next artist, Adam Carroll, is a Texan who I learned of from Paul Sherratt's late, great radio show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47am Doug Schulkind:

Another beloved artist Paul turned me onto, Mary Gauthier (another artist who stayed at Sherratt Castle), is coming up later in this set.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49am Doug Schulkind:

Up next, is the stunning Iris DeMent, whose voice makes Paul's dog... irritable.
  9:50am Paul Sherratt:

Doug, someone from Texas, I don't know who, sent me the Adam Carroll in a small parcel which included a couple of Caroline Herring albums. The kindness of strangers... Peggy Roberts has just sent a note crediting his dad with the artist that's emerged for the lucky few who know him.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:51am Brian in UK:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55am Doug Schulkind:

@listener james from westwood
Gillian almost made the cut for this set!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:56am Doug Schulkind:

Avatar 10:10am annie:

i never really listened to lucinda, really listened, until "World Without Tears", and was just blown away by her open-hearted singing, gut-wrneching reality
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15am Doug Schulkind:

OK, I've had a turn of mind. Now I won't edit that glitch out of the archive. It would be like me playing God or something. That makes me uncomfortable.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:15am Artie Haywire:

Good morning, Doug, Drummers!
It was 'Six Blocks Away' that first took me down. Highly relevant at moment of first listening. Oof.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16am Uncle Michael:

I was out listening in the yard...are you telling me you put a round thing on a machine and it produced music?! Are you some sort of *wizard*? Are you Michael Cumella? Is this some sort of historic re-creation? Are we in Colonial Williamsburg? Is this the Bronze Age??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16am Doug Schulkind:

Howdy, Artie Haywire!!

He sleeps all alone on Second Street
With a roof over his head and food to eat
But he can hardly make it day to day 'cause
Everything he wants is six blocks away, six blocks away

He's got a regular job and it pays the rent
In a donut shop on third and tenth
But he doesn't understand why she turned him away
He can hear her heart beat six blocks away, six blocks away

Six blocks away dirty old street
Six blocks away he can hear her heart beat
Six blocks away dirty old street
Six blocks away he can hear her heart beat, six blocks away

He walks real fast down the dirty street
He turns his eyes from the people he meets
It hurts so bad what can he say
He sends her a message six blocks away, six blocks away

Six blocks away dirty old street
Six blocks away he can hear her heart beat
Six blocks away dirty old street
Six blocks away he can hear her heart beat, six blocks away

Six blocks away
Six blocks away

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23am Doug Schulkind:

I respect an artist's decision to change course and evolve, but I have always felt Lucinda's best work was done with Gurf onboard.

I've missed most of a damn fine show, including the Dickerson/Sun Ra "Visions" track!

My record store story: I used to treat myself to Pasadena's Poo-Bah Records in its old location on Walnut Street on occasional weekends. Once when I arrived the familiar clerk at the register looked up and announced, "Here comes the guy who pays my salary." At the time I was single and sans kids. I don't expect I'll ever hear a similar remark. (Speaking of being single, today's my and wifey-poo's 16th angryversary! And speaking of record stores, we're heading tomorrow to Chicago.
